Difference between a and learner Psychologists define learning as permanent change in knowledge or behavior due to past experiences. From this definition, it is apparent that disparities exist between the terms student and learner. The latter encompasses an individuals ability to apply knowledge learnt in or outside a school setting in their daily endeavors. Unlike students, learners require minimal supervision because they have an internal drive to succeed in the activities they choose to do.
On the other hand, students excel under constant scrutiny from supervisors. Content learnt does not result in a permanent change behavior because students fail to internalize learnt knowledge. They resort to rote memorization, which only probes useful during assessments. Depending on the subject,I find myself leaning towards behaving likened student or learner. Technical subjects such as statistics did not resonate well within me; therefore, I found myself taking a students approach, which entailed cramming formulas for exam purposes without internalizing procedures.
However, I found subjects that required less technicality interesting, and easy to apply in real life situations. In order to overcome this probelm, I need to take an interest in the technical subjects. Forming group discussions with people interested in the subjects will help elevate my interests. Class participation might also help in increasing my interests. Works Cited Sanders, Mathew. Becoming a Learner: Realizing the Opportunity for Education.
