Gould’s Argument for Evolution According to Gould, science is changing because people are reassessing and reinterpreting facts. He also thinks that creation science presents numerous contradictions. He has presented various explanations to prove to his audience the contradictions of science. He believes that science does not offer a good explanation of evolution since creation processes are not scientific (Gould 71). The author thinks that the contradiction of creation science is caused by vernacular misunderstandings between evolutionists and scientists.
For instance, he believes that the scientific explanation of the word “theory” contradicts with that of evolutionists. Scientists believe that evolutionists are using the word “theory” to hide their false arguments. In addition, scientists are using science philosophy in order to argue against evolution. However, the author thinks that the philosophy of the scientists themselves that their beliefs contradict with scientific facts. The assertion implies that scientific creation not only lacks meaning, but it is also self-contradictory.
According to scientists’ explanation, “theory” means wrong facts. This means that evolution explanations about creation are also wrong facts. However, scientists themselves cannot make decision about the theories. Consequently, it is difficult to have confidence in science creation (Gould 72). Science creation is also a contradiction because it holds that evolution is both theory and facts. The author thinks that facts and theories do not have the same meaning. According to him, facts are information or data found in the world.
On the contrary, theories are information which helps people to understand the world’s data. He thinks that facts will always remain the same. However, science changes always because of the constant reassessments and reinterpretations. Scientists believe that evolutionists could be right if the facts presented are authentic. However, scientists themselves take the place of theory to explain the facts just like the evolutionists. For instance, Einstein offered a new explanation about gravity force.
His explanation replaces that of Newton. However, Einstein’s theory did not change the fact that heavy objects cannot remain suspended in mid-air (Gould 73). Gould also thinks that science creation is a contradiction. According to him, facts are not absolute assurance. Scientists argue that their explanation in creation science is true because it presents facts unlike evolution theories. However, they contradict themselves because they are not certain about the facts presented. Evolutionists do not always claim that their explanation is true.
However, scientists always claim that they only offer true explanations because they give facts. They use arguments which favor themselves whenever they attack evolutionists. Gould also thinks that scientists contradict themselves by trying to explain old information in new ways. An example, of this is the old evolution theories which scientists have been trying to offer new explanations. Their aim of offering the new explanation is to prove the previous explanations wrongs. However, they still come to the same conclusion as the previous explanations.
An example of this is the evolution theory. In the evolution theory, both scientists are offering new explanations about how the evolution process occurred. However, they come to the same conclusion that evolution occurred just like the evolutionists. Scientists claim that the facts they present differ with the theories presented by evolutionists. However, Gould thinks that both evolutionists and scientist explains the same things in different ways. Works CitedGould, Stephen. Evolution as fact theory. 2001. Web.
