A Stress A Stress A stress is an emotional response of a person to a particular even or conditions that affects the individual’s mental health and well-being. It is a method used by the body to react in any encountering of a challenge. Every person uses the unique and strategic approaches of responding to stressful events. In other words, stress is typically described as positive or negative conditions that affect the individual physical and mental well-being. Therefore, this paper discusses the stressful moments that engulfs us, as students in reflection to Chapter 13 of the course book (Hockenbury et al., 2014). The paper also presents various strategies that promote the mental health and well-being, commonly used by students. The students undergo various activities, including unfavorable and hardship conditions that keep challenging their objectives of achieving their future goals. The experienced challenges keep exerting pressures on the person, thereby shaping personal cognitive attributes and behaviors. This is because stress in a person contributes cognitive elements that help the students to develop his or her experiences in mental awareness that alerts of the future consequences. In addition, the creation of mental awareness of any challenge is a critical strategy of helping the students to avoid stress. Among the major issues affecting the students include exams, poverty on the ones from disadvantaged families, race, and tribal discrimination. However, in reflecting on the cases of exam phobia that affects most of the students, this paper illustrates their impacts on the behavioral or their learning activities. The learning system frameworks of several learning institutions use exams to evaluate students on the progress of understanding the course learnt. Therefore, the notions of the examining students put a lot of pressure on them, making them to work hard beyond their capabilities in order to pass the exams. On reflecting to a specific situation, the student worked extra hard to study for the forthcoming exams that were crucial in passing to the next level of learning system. Unfortunately, the student failed three of his course papers that made him to repeat the same level, as required by the institutional policies. This created shock, anger, stress, depression, and an aspect of disbelief, among other negative impacts that engulfed the student. The emotional disbeliefs and conditional threatening by the failure situations caused some of the impacts that results. Failing exams to students is the same phenomenon with the physical insults, or prolonged starvations because they are all threatening the human progress. Moreover, the impacts of failing exams by students can cause the psychological suffering or other mental disorders such as stress, which cal even lead to school drop out, committing suicide, and early marriages. It can also cause the students to involve themselves in drug and alcoholic drinks, in their effort to manage stress or desperation emotions. This means that the stress in students can harm their educational progress or completion since the learning is directly related to the mental progress since they both aim to develop the skills and knowledge of a person to be capable of achieving the career objectives. However, there is a relationship between the behaviors of a person to his or her mental health. For example, if a student adopts bad behavioral traits such as being alcoholic or drug abuse addict, then it will be easier for him or her to fail exams. On the other hand, failing exams creates stress or other psychological responses that affects the mental health of the victim. Those are some of the reasons why behaviors are directly correlated to the brain of the person. Some behavioral aspects of a person such as dating and mating are other forms of bad behaviors that affects the psychological wellness and wellbeing of a person. This problem mostly affects the students, especially during adolescent stages where students date their partners. The love relationships in schools are stressful since one cannot concentrate well in class. This is especially when the relationship breaks up that creates the emotions of loneliness, disappointments, or anger if one partner cheats another. Similarly, the good relationships in school can also affect the students’ learning, as both partners waste a lot of time trying to convince one another on their level of friendship. This can make the affected students to forget faster on what has been learnt in class, thereby creating a problem of memory failure that makes the student to fail exams at the end. Some of the strategies one could use to avoid such stress in failing exams are to be smart in every learning activity. This includes time planning to avoid time wastage for the lessons, avoid peer pressures in order to be self-decisive on the learning activities. Stress management is a crucial human activity that helps an individual to be mentally healthy. It helps one to be in touch with life realities by avoiding sensitive emotions that are expressed as a response to a particular condition. Moreover, managing the stress improves the personal traits such as decision making, being principled, and understanding to the changing physical, environmental, and behavioral conditions. This ensures there is stability in expressing emotional responses that conforms to mental health of the person or adoption of resilience by the individual. Various web centers advocate for stress management notions since they understand the impacts of having stress in the societal living. According to WebMB (2014), lack of stress management can cause depression, headache, being sleepless, stomach pain, or illness that destabilizes the human wellness and well-being. The center provides various strategies to reduce stress including relaxation techniques, controlling the origin of stress, or having other mechanisms to counterbalance stress. For example, listening to music, travel, and exploring the wilderness, among others. The best strategies to cope with stress are controlling the stress origination if the individual is capable. Other methods to improve individual’s health while controlling stress is to do interested things, doing exercises, socializing, taking a break on something, or even having social support from the loved ones. In conclusion, the paper has demonstrated the stress notions among the students, especially the way it is adopted, and the best strategies for its adaptations. This has been achieved by referencing the relevant sources that provides good information on managing stress. However, it is apparent that stress is derived from a correlation of various conditions and personal perceptions or emotions, expressed as a response to a particular event or conditions. Therefore, the people should adopt the resilience mechanism of adapting to the stress, which is a threat to wellness of a person. Resilience strategies include adapting to the behavioral or conditional changes or using other techniques such as exercising, involving in interested activities in order to assist in avoiding or managing stress.
