Anne’s parents have contacted me because their teenage daughter is rebellious both in school and at home. Moreover, her performance has been on the decline and this trend is worrying the parents. To make the matters worse, her mother found Marijuana in her bedroom and when she confronted her, she evaded the topic by fleeing home for almost a week. I got an opportunity to talk to Anne, but she is very uncooperative; she blames her mother for her woes. According to Anne, her mother is very negative about her and does not show her the love and care she deserves. This is understandable because Anne being the only child used to get all the attention. Anne is experiencing depression, as a result, and this is responsible for her rebellious behavior and smoking of marijuana.
1. Level of Service
It is highly recommended that Anne get more private counseling sessions subject to her positive response (Hogan, 2007). She also needs some family counseling sessions with her parents and adopted sister so that they can bond more.
2. Interview Strategies
Anne is not friendly, which makes it very hardtop get her to open up. To make her cooperative, I will first ensure that I create a rapport with her. This will involve understanding her deeper by knowing her hobbies and dislikes. I will first dwell on discussing her hobbies and once she is in the right state of mind I can dig deeper to unearth her reasons for rebellion and Marijuana use. The subject of her rebellious ways and her family life should come last when there is a conducive environment. I believe that when given the correct environment, Anne will feel comfortable and will open up during therapy sessions.
3. Needs
It is paramount that Anne stops acting out of emotion. She needs to be true to herself and desist from marijuana use and her rebellious ways. The use of marijuana is compromising her thinking and making her lose touch with reality (Plante, 2011). The fact that her parents have adopted a child does not mean that they do not love her anymore. She needs to take it positively and see her adopted sister as a companion.
4. Referrals
Anne together with her family should pay a visit to a psychologist at New View Psychology. The unit is well-equipped to handle Anne’s situation and revert her to normalcy.
5. Later Needs
After the completion of her therapy sessions, Anne should start to offer a new leaf. She needs to get new friends, develop a new interest, and focus more on school. This will help distract Anne from depression and the use of Marijuana.
6. Support Systems
The family support system is key to helping Anne to recover fully. After the adoption of the child, Anne felt neglected so it would be great if they hang out more as a family. She also needs to share her stories with other teenagers so that they can offer each other moral support.
