PSY Assignment - Personal Statement Example

PSY Assignment Having a good memory plays a vital role in my study and overall school performance. I noticed that I am doing well in determining how to use information in a way that I could easily memorize it (encoding). I am also doing well in working out ways to retain the information I have learned over time (storage) and in remembering accurately the first and last information in a procedure or event in our lessons (serial-position effect). When we have lectures in class, I get used to reading the important information to myself for easy recall of the subject matter (auditory codes).

I also used this method at home when there is a need to review for quizzes and final examinations. Overtime, I may tend to forget the concepts that I have learned and in order to prevent it, I constantly reflect on the information mentally especially when there is time allotted for review in school and whenever I encountered the same concepts or information (maintenance rehearsal). Although my ways of memorizing information and concepts worked, there are times that memorizing seems difficult; an example of which is memorizing procedures that requires specific order or sequence.

I do not spend much time and effort in recalling and answering the first and last concepts or information in the list compared with the in-between items that were left unanswered or were given more time and effort to recall (series-position effect). These are the three ways that prove that I am doing well in my current academic pursuit. One may notice that there are some lapses and that remembering short-term information was prominent; thus, I suggest that meaningful learning or use of mnemonics (semantic codes) be used in conjunction with auditory codes to facilitate long-term memory.

In addition, I think that my way of learning is purely memorization and lacks organization. Changing it to ways that would arrange information into groups, classes or common distinct features (hierarchy) would significantly improve my study skills.Work CitedRathus, Spencer A.
