11 September Psychology: Module Workshop Activity I am a part of the natural world, yet this is an undeniable fact that I am unique. God has made human beings superior to all creatures on the face of Earth. I have more brains than any other creature. This naturally places more power in my hand than other creatures that form part of the nature. Using my brain, I can use the nature for personal gains and impact the life of other creatures. Without the natural world, I would not exist because I draw food, water, air and all necessities of life from the natural world.

This makes me and the natural world inseparable. Yes, as I said before, God has made me brainier and accordingly, more powerful than other creatures, I do feel dominant to “lower” creatures. I can find shelter for myself if I am caught in rain. I can control the temperature of my room by adjusting HVAC system as per my desire. I can cover hundreds of miles of distance in minutes, despite the fact that I don’t have wings. Much more can be said to prove my supremacy to other creatures, though I do have some connection with them as well.

I have to take care of the lower creatures, because if I don’t, I shall be held accountable for that in the world hereafter. Our access to resources is virtually limited. We can assess the extent of resources making use of the technology. With the rapid consumption of wood, we can see the forests vanishing, and mountains that once used to be green going bald. The limitation of resources is also showing up in terms of the increased prices of oil and gas, though different resources vary in there limits.

Technology is both the cause and solution of problems that we may come across. In the contemporary society, the biggest problems we have come across and expect to encounter in the near future are those of global warming and unsustainable development. Both of these problems have been caused because of our unwise use of technology in the past. However, technology is being used nowadays to find solutions for these problems. For example, use of hybrid cars is recommended because they require lesser petroleum than ordinary cars.

Petroleum has become very expensive in the present age because of its limited quantity. In this way, the concept of hybrid cars is consistent with sustainable development, which happens to be the most fundamental need of the contemporary age. I believe that I have a connection to the nature and that I am connected with lower creatures, but my behavior contradicts my belief. This can fundamentally be attributed to self-interest. Yes, I do confess that I am selfish. I care more for myself than other creatures, but again, my behavior accords with my needs.

I need to travel miles of distance in minutes and can not do without using a motor car, though I know the petroleum it burns will add to the carbon content in the air.
