An activation triggers other mind processing parts of the brain ready for information processing and memory. It is a memory model that makes use of interlinked network nodes to retrieve information. The process works in such a way that, when one point is triggered, information spreads through the network to retrieve associated information. Priming is used as a method to cause this activation (Keen & Townsend, n.d). An example of a prime-stimulus pair; an experiment can be conducted where participants are expected to match pairs of words.

An example could be spoons, knives, plates and so on. These are matched based on an instruction that one should, maybe press a button when the word belongs to a specific category, and another when it belongs to a different category. A priming stimulus is introduced, for example in the above case; cutlery. Cutlery is a priming stimulus that will speed up the recognition of words and categorizing them in the same group. A prime stimulus pair that would produce priming would, therefore, be; plates, knife, and spoon.

A prime stimulus pair that would not produce priming would be; plate, mango, and car. Categorization could be a method of improving memory or increasing accessibility to information. This is because of the effect of priming that triggers easy memory of words or items that belong to a specific category. . The Loci Technique This is a technique of improving memory through the designation of objects to be remembered to specific places that a person is familiar with. An example that illustrates the technique is as follows. Mr. S is a Russian with an extraordinary memory.

He explained how he placed things in different places to improve his memory. Mr. S. mentally put each object in a specific place that he was familiar to, for example, he would create a scene with various objects like a violin, a dog, a tree and so on. Such a scene would be composed based on a familiar street.
