Discussion Post Critique to Beau discussion post Provide an additional strategy to mitigate one challenge In research data, seeking anonymity of respondents in a set of collected data helps avoid any form of bias from the researcher’s analysis. The presence of his sister in the data collected could negatively affect the results due to multiple relationships involved with a respondent in the study. To maintain anonymity, the researcher could restructure his questionnaire to avoid the inclusion of very personalized information among the respondents.

If personalized information has no significant impact on the study, the psychologist could do without the data by scrapping it from his research tools. Describe a possible outcome (negative or positive) that may result from a colleague’s strategy and explain your reasoning. While choosing a population of study, the sampling criteria used tries to narrow down the study to a particular group that is significant in the research. The researcher avoids settling on a population size that is likely to distort his results.

From an identified study population, all the members are significant in the analysis of the data involved. Removing the identified family member from the data collected potentially affects the results in the study. During the sampling process, the researcher must have had factored in response from that particular respondent and thus her response must be included in the data analysis process. Describe a variation on a colleague’s strategy to mitigate the challenge and explain why it might improve the original strategy.

Variation is likely to occur whenever a study is repeated on a similar study population. Respondents sometimes remember a particular answer relevant in the study way later after the study is over. Also, some respondents fail to reveal crucial information significant to the study due to various reasons. Part of these could include suspicion and anxiety when answering the provided questions. Mostly, the purpose of a reconnaissance study is supposed to orient the study population and prepare it to the actual study.

Prior information about the target population helps in drafting of the research tools in a language and structure familiar to the population. This removes any form of anxiety or uncertainty that may characterize the population. Thus, revisiting the study population for the second time makes the data more accurate and responses more direct. In such a study therefore, the first study acts as a reconnaissance study to the second actual study. Critique to Marie discussion post Provide an additional strategy to mitigate one challenge the colleague described.

While carrying out a research, the target audience must not always be known to the researcher. According to Keegan (2009), before settling for a particular target audience, the researcher focuses on the most appropriate audience that could give the best results for the study. Sampling bias is likely to lead to poor results as a known audience leads to prejudgment by the researcher. Moreover, the audience could opt to lie to the researcher in order to give the most appropriate answers that are not precise or correct.

A strategy that could prove to be more effective than going ahead with the study population of friends would be getting referrals from the same friends on new target audiences that the researchers could exploit and get better results. Describe a possible outcome (negative or positive) that may result from a colleague’s strategy and explain your reasoning. Although the respondents could choose to reply in the most honest way possible due to the relationship they share with the researcher, this assumption could also be not true.

In most cases, the researcher is aware of strengths and weaknesses of the audience. Regardless of the answers provided, the researcher will have the knowledge of the exact situation facing the respondent. Despite the analysis and data tabulation stages not being affected by the prior knowledge of the audience, the reality is that their opinions might find their way into the analysis and interpretation stages of the study, thus potentially affecting the general outcome of the entire study. Describe a variation on a colleague’s strategy to mitigate the challenge and explain why it might improve the original strategy.

Choosing to go ahead with the research with the study population could be tricky. How well will the researcher manage to keep away the various opinions of the audience not reflected in the data? How sure is the researcher that the audience will not ‘cook up’ some information that they are aware the researcher is looking for to make conclusions? There is also a possibility that the researcher could have shared the idea of the research with some of the intended target audience. Consequently, this leads to a huge variation in the type of data provided to the researcher than when an extremely different and completely anonymous audience is used.

Reference Keegan, S. (2009). Qualitative research: Good decision making through understanding people, cultures and markets. London: Kogan Page. Communication and Cultural differences For a research to be successful, the groups involved must be coherent with each other, and be in a position to understand one another. The researchers and the respondents must be in a position to understand each other and agree on the way forward in carrying out the exercise. Not unless they can agree, all the efforts involved in preparing the research will be in vain.

Communication is an essential element when carrying out any research. Researchers and the audience need to understand each other so that information and could be successfully communicated to the researcher in the most appropriate manner. Cultural differences on the other hand could lead incoherence among the different groups and parties involved in a research. To solve the communication problem, the use of a common language that is understandable and familiar to all parties should be used. In case the language chosen is not the audience’s first language, the use of complex words that are hard to comprehend by the other party should be avoided (Tracy, 2013).

However, in case no language is available that the two parties could agree with, services of a trusted interpreter could be used. The use of signs, body language and facial expressions could offer an opportunity to the two parties to understand each other. Culturally, differences arise in the mode and manner of dressing, behaviorisms, beliefs, religion, language, values, and gender roles. Cultural differences between two groups can adversely affect their coherency (Bhattacharya, 2006). Therefore, a prior study on the target audience before the actual study would give insights on the cultural beliefs and practices of that particular group of people.

Therefore, during the actual day of the study, researchers will avoid any form of dressing, behavior or mannerisms that are likely to affect the respondents. Additionally, the researchers will avoid any gadgets that are likely to trigger curiosity among the respondents especially is the population is culturally a conservative one. The researchers could also avoid any form of religious discussions with the audience. References Bhattacharya, D. K. (2006). Research methodology. New Delhi: Excel Books. Tracy, S. J.
