From the case study Mark’s energy is focused on his love for what he does. This is generated from the archetype hero. In this archetype, a person tend t o indulge in what he does by all his strength and commitment (Schultz & Schultz, 2013). In Mark’s case this is clearly evident. His love for his job creates the passion he has for what he does. Additionally, Mark has an inborn form of energy that bounds him to physical activity. His love for physical activity also shapes the creation of his psychic energy.

It is evident that the psychological perception on physicality makes Mark what he is as a firefighter. Mark’s personality may be described as extraverted thinking. Firstly, Mark is an extrovert. He believes that no boundaries can hold his love for physical activities. His personality as an extrovert drove his career selection. His first choice was a police officer. In this career he felt great indulging in the physicality of his acquaintance but this was not enough to quench his thirst for physicality.

He then opted to be a fire man a decision that was opposed by his parents. However, he could not give up on his quest for an activity that would satisfy him. In addition to being an extrovert, Mark has a thinking sensation. This shapes his decision making made on the situation at the time (Schultz & Schultz, 2013). While on duty Mark’s psyche is shaped by the happenings around him. From the case study, Mark points out that being at a fire scene makes him even more hyper just seeing flames and being exposed to the hot fumes.

He also points out that the scene while fighting fire makes him a better decision maker since he knows what is at stake. His thinking becomes better when he is exposed to extreme conditions. The combination of these two features shapes Mark’s personality to extraverted thinking. Neopsychoanalytic theory by Jung argues that social factors play a significant role in shaping person’s cognitive development (Schultz & Schultz, 2013). In this theory, environmental factors such as cultural background shape the way in which a person’s personality is shaped and perceives life.

However, this is debatable as some psychologists argue that personality is a creation of the inborn characteristics person posses. In Mark’s case, Jung’s theory cannot be applied or does not explain the personality trait of Mark. Mark has an inborn love for physical activity. As a child he loved noisy games and played with metal pans and sticks to create the type of environment he feels comfortable in (Schultz & Schultz, 2013). This provides an explanation to the physical personality Mark posses.

One may comfortably argues that the character trait Mark has is not based on either the cultural background that he was exposed or any social factor. This is contrary to the claims by Jung in the neo-psychoanalytic theory which characterizes all personalities as creation of social and environmental factors. According to Schultz & Schultz (2013) the relationship between personality and the social environment does not shape the personality creations that one possesses. In the past ten years much has be done in the field of psychology that tends to explain the creation and formation of personalities.
