The learning zone comprises skills and abilities that the learner cannot reach. The comfort zone includes activities that can be performed quickly, while the panic zone consists of strenuous activities that performers do not know how to approach (Colvin, 2008). Feedback is necessary during practice, and performers must see results to improve and continue practising. Deliberate practice is mentally demanding and requires focus, concentration, and short sessions. This helps performers in the corporate world anticipate customer needs and athletes anticipate opponents’ movements. Circumstances experienced by a person, especially during early childhood, can affect their ability to engage in deliberate practice. The circumstances act like a supportive environment for the individual. Top performers use their short-term memory to remember events by grouping them. They learn how to build and develop knowledge from practice (Colvin, 2008).

The author has used everyday language that has made it easy to understand the discussion in the book. The author has used plain language and numerous examples that complement the arguments. Using long-term memory contained in theory can help the learners utilize structures based on the deep knowledge of their fields. The main limitation of this book is the lack of instructions that students and teachers or coaches can follow to improve their students' performance.

The author has used several types of evidence to prove his arguments.  The main idea is a deliberate practice designed to improve performance with the help of the teacher or coach. The course can be affected by the environment the person is subjected to, especially in childhood. Tiger Woods was subjected to golf at an early age by his father, Earl Woods. The Lazlo sisters started playing chess when the oldest was four years old, and they developed to become grandmasters. Top performers also concentrate on a single element that they want to perfect. Tiger Woods occasionally practised dropping balls in a sand trap, stepping on them, and attempting to shoot them. Deliberate practice requires several repetitions until the person perfects the method. Ted Williams, the greatest baseball hitter, would practice hitting the balls until his hands bled. Peter Maravich, an excellent basketballer, would practice shooting baskets from morning to evening. Top performers require fast reaction times, which can be improved through practice. Tennis players need quick reaction times and speed since they have to track the motion and speed of the ball (Colvin, 2008).

The author argues that the environment influences top performers they are born (Colvin, 2008). I believe I am an excellent businessman due to my paid background. My father is a successful businessman, and his interest in business comes naturally. Previous interactions with my father have given me the knowledge I can build upon. The book has changed my interest in business following my past exposure to business practices. The author has discussed how performers can identify a specific method and perform it repetitively until it is mastered. This will help me identify a particular business practice and achieve it until I succeed. The book has reinforced my idea that achievement by top performers depends on the effort applied. They have to engage in practice from an early stage and perform the activities repetitively until they master them. They must focus on a particular method and dedicate enough time to their actions (Colvin, 2008).

The book contains information that can help other students become top performers, making me recommend it to others. The author has described elements of deliberate practice that can help an individual improve performance levels. The details are supported by examples that provide evidence of successful people who have implemented these elements. The book also talks of theories such as long-term memory that help performers structure their information.

Students in the MLOS program can use this book since it deals with organizational studies that can help them improve their leadership. The performance of an organization depends on the activities and practices of the managers. Wal-Mart had a poor reputation for employee relations. Sam Walton had to change how the managers interacted with employees to change the way the employees interacted with customers (Colvin, 2008). Students in the MLOS program should read the book to understand the elements that separate top performers from others. Students have to practice the details contained in this book to improve performance.

 In conclusion, top performers are made and not born. They are made through early exposure since the environment influences the performance level. Deliberate practice is cumbersome and involves repeating the same methods severally. Top performers must identify a particular activity they need to master and practice it repetitively until they are satisfied. The practice has to continue even after getting to maintain professionalism. Top performers have to identify things that are unidentified by ordinary people. This requires fast reaction times and speed that helps the performer maintain an edge over competitors and opponents.
