What I have Learned to Do - Essay Example

   Paradoxically, I learned the most important purpose of my life on its saddest day, i.e. to help others.  Paradoxically, I learned the most important purpose of my life on its saddest day, i.e. to help others. It so happened that as I was heading towards home from my school, I saw an old man walking with the aid of a wooden stick. He wanted to cross the road, but due to the great influx of traffic, he stood in the midst of the road and could not move any further on his own.  I loved the feeling of having helped him.

It made me feel very complete and gave me a sense of fulfillment and achievement. The happiness derived from the kind act was overwhelming and took away all my sorrows. That was when I learned the real purpose of human life.  Perhaps, the old man lived because I lived at that time. Had I not been there in time, he could have been caught in a deadly accident. The biggest of all virtues a human being can have is to be able to help others! So I have learned to help others in general and in moments of despair in particular.
