TAXONOMY Comprehension, Application, Analysis and Synthesis (From Aristotle to Augustine) Prof. Byamugisha Georoson Wilson CALGARY UNIVERSITY, CANADA 2009 ABSTRACT This Thetic Presentation embodies reflections from two varying but significant Schools of thought - namely, Aristotle and Augustine. In fact, they are, each renowned for their Philosophical Excellence in the World of Academia - let alone, the Fields of Philosophy and Science, which seem to conflict, to some reasonable extent. Their Emotions, Feelings and Reactions shape the Framework of their characteristically distinguishable values attributed to Nature, and Science; the reality of which attracts our attention to Scope of this Study. It's for this reason that a Comparative analytical Treatise of the Text that te Writer chose to adopt that a Dialogue Approach. Because the Writer feels that what lies in the Interest of many a Listeners' interest is establishing the relationships of the Two Schools of thought - and if any thing, to establish the area where they differ; and, hopefully, be able to draw a line, hence, Conclusion. So, the Writer chose to treat Philosopher Aristotle in Column A, and Philosopher Augustine in Column B. The Writer used APA Style of Writing the Essay. Wilson Taxonomy : Comprehension, Application, Analysis and Synthesis - From Aristotle to Augustine is simply a reflection of Ideas Views and Opinions from two identified Great Thinkers of the Time, whose Works still live to be greatly admired, acknowledged and recognized in their Full Honour Their Opinions and Ideologies are looked at in terms of the following; How each of them sees the Components of Comprehension, Application, Analysis and Synthesis How each understands the Context in reality. How each treats Taxonomy and its effect on his Behaviour The Purpose of Choosing this Topic on Taxonomy, and how it fits within each one's overall way of Life Purpose Examinations of the Two Philosophers' inclinations and establishing whether such signal any likelihood of the two becoming friendly Whether the choice of one Philosopher would influence that of the other. The study of these two inter-related Philosophers -and Hence, Schools of thought, is paramount for purposes of Study (Research) and day-to-day reasoning inherent among the People on this Planet. As the Ideas that flowed from these Brains has been and lives to be remembered. By examining each Character separately, and stating off with Philosopher Aristotle, he has been renowned for Philosophical Works - later to be regareded ad Sientific. He has been and is still remembered to have Initiated the Study of Liing Organisms -including Himself. Thisis thae area where his Work has been Most admired. He made enough efforts to discover the Relationships among the Living Organisms. As a Behaviourist, he was keenly interested in knowing something about Which category behaves how. And, possibly, what influences it to do so. His Crown of 'Father of Science' - is Prime enough to illustrate his Research and Academic Weight in the World of Learning. So, Aristotle looks at the relationship of Living Organisms in their Quest for Livelihood. Aristotle is also interested in establishing Sense of Belonging, characteristic of any Creature. This he does by Classification of things - organisms in this sense. Not only does Aristotle stop there. He goes further to study Plants and illustrate their differences in Species. So his Kin Interest the Origination of Species has sparked off a lot of Ambition among both the Philosophers. And, actually, his innovations have led to complicating the Understanding of the Difference between Religion or Philosophy and Science. The Context of this Topic. By way of classic reasoning. It can seen that Aristotle has a Scientific View of the Subject, Taxonomy - which is taken to mean 'Something that one wishes to convey especially by Language' - which he does by addressing himself to the Realities of Life via the Expression of Organic Life. For purposes of this Topic, however we need to make another point or two about the way is Emotions and Feelings of Human and Nature afflict his Counter-part who seems to be slightly opposed to his way of viewing nature and what constitutes its components.. We, therefore, gratefully acknowledge his efforts in his Quest to learn Living Organisms and their relationships; or even inter-relationships. This is drawn from the Family Classification Treatise, where he wins every one's mandate and support to appreciate his Views. Going by His Innovations and the extent to which they have been admired and approved by Previous and Current Generations, one finds no reason why it should not be emulated with its due Credit. The crowning of being a 'Father of Sience' is prime enough to emphasize this point. So, whether the Aristotle's choice of his View of Taxonomy does not influence Augustine is not an Issue - but rather, what the World of Reality deems it to be. It suffices, therefore, to say that Aristotle is the Source of Great Scientific and Philosophical Learning, on which current and future trends of analysis can based for purposes of Research and learning. And for the goodness of appreciation, the final opinion is left with the reader to judge whose matter out-weighs the other. Otherwise, Aristotle is renowned for his scientific reasoning and Innovations. It's highly unlikely for the Two distinguished Academic Heavy-weights to friendly; friendly in the sense that that they agree on their Emotions and Feelings about Nature. Because, they, both look at nature and relationship- on different perspectives. Getting to Augustine, this Philosopher looks at Nature via creation, and hardly has value for both Science and Innovations. In other Words, Augustine is opposed to Aristotle's Ideals. Augustine believes in Divinity of Things - where Godliness is all that matters in his view and not anything. Looking at it by way of Definition, Each Philosopher makes enough Efforts to make his Point Clear - and, has his own inclinations. However, there is one cross-cutting issue, which is relationship. While Aristotle looks at it as an Effect caused by and attributed to each Class' Behavoiur, with some of these factors emanating rom genetic factors, Augustine comfortably assures us that What matters is good relationship with God and Neighbour; but does not labour to explain from what angle; which, almost leaves one in a Dilemma.. For sure, without any intent to discredit Augustine, Knowledgeable as he is, it's rather unsatisfactory of him to give his listening Audience hanging Statements. Believing in God is Prudent and Normal, and argumentatively, he is rich, but leaves his readership indifferent apparently, there is no clear - cut demarcation between Religion / Philosophy and Science. Because, in the end , they use the same Applications -whether Scientific or non-scientific. Read More
