Download file to see previous pages It was in this context of understanding that I experienced my most embarrassing moment. During the first few weeks living in Los Angeles, I explored many parts of the city. Walking through Los Feliz in Hollywood one afternoon I was approached by a man, later revealed to be a photographer, who asked for a moment of my time.“You have a very beautiful personality and image,” he said. Taken aback I have walked away, but he quickly interjected, “I would love to have you model!” I was perplexed, as I had never envisioned myself as the model type, and after-all he had just met me, how would he even have an inkling of my personality. Still, I secretly found his invitation flattering and was intrigued at where the opportunity could lead. The following weekend I arrived at his studio. Still new to the city, entering into this unfamiliar situation compounded my generalized anxiety. I knew nothing about modelling and this soon became abundantly clear. As I walked into the studio the photographer was there. “Hi” I sheepishly said. He seemed preoccupied and instructed me to go with his assistants to an adjacent room. Everyone at the studio moved confident and efficiently as if this was industry standard. As I walked into the adjacent room I was surrounded by a group of people who measured my size and then hold up a dress. I could feel the eyes of the other people in the room staring intently at me waiting. Slowly I felt a thrust of blood shoot throughout my face, as I nervously tightened my hands into fists as if it might stabilize my embarrassment. They were going to undress me. ...Download file to see next pagesRead More

My Reflections on Leadership Theories and My Leadership Development

Bacal (2000) points out that it is during a time of implementation of change that the levels of uncertainty are highest and that is the time when effective leadership is all the more important.

Globalization has mandated the amalgamation of cultures, highlighting the need for sensitivity to the cultural norms of other countries. The Management Style of the leader of an organization is likely to affect the degree to which it achieves productivity when working in an international climate. How Can Seeing a Live Performance Enhance Your Experience or Reading of a Drama

The same is the case with human intellect. It receives some inputs which can be called perceiving the stimulus, interprets it in the light of his previous knowledge and experience and then it reacts accordingly and inputs just processed becomes the part of one’s experiences. Structural-Functional and Symbolic Interactionism Theory as Applied to a Personal Experience

Janina has tried for a US visa a number of times, and every time, she came home disappointed at having been denied. In the structural-functional theory, the US embassy is an institution that functions to screen prospective visitors to their country. Inherent in the structure is inequality in terms of not being able to provide a visa to everyone who applies. Since Janina is one of the unfortunate ones who was never granted a visa in all the times she tried to acquire one, her frustration has created a different meaning for the US embassy. Where before, the US Embassy has symbolized for her a gateway to fulfilling her dreams of visiting the US, her painful denials in being granted a visa has now been instrumental in it being a symbo...

British Involvement in Jewish Immigration to Palestine 1919-1939

Britain held close its cards on its motivation for throwing its support in one direction or another in the years between 1919 and 1939. Even though they were the force behind laying the foundation for the rise of Israel as an independent state, they also sent mixed messages making it difficult to say where, if anywhere, the British stood on Middle East relations and Israel.
While Britain’s role in the Middle East would change over the post World War I years, Britain acquired additional Middle Eastern territory following the war. Some Middle Eastern leaders sided with Germany during the war, and, as a result, in the aftermath of the war Britain’s Middle Eastern territories were increased (Kedourie, Elie, [Dann, Uri...

Nile Floods Public Health Disaster: Managing the Disaster using Katrina Experience

The Katrina hurricane disaster that wrecked New Orleans was a classic example of this. Authors, Frank and Trinidad have observed that disaster preparedness is essential in the current socio-political atmosphere. They say that disasters can lead to illness, injury, the devastation of homes, disruptions of essential services, and the displacement of populations. (Frank and Trinidad, 2007). Every disaster teaches the same lessons. “Advance preparation is essential, communication among responders is critical, rules and procedures are helpful, but autonomy and flexibility within limits are key elements of a productive response” (Frank and Trinidad 2007).

Originating from the monsoon rains, the annual floods...

My History as a Writer

... which makes it even more difficult for me to translate my thoughts into words. Writing has never been one of my strong points. Unlike some people who can put their ideas into words easily, I spend hours looking at the screen of my computer hoping that somehow, I will be able to write just a few pages of essay to pass my class. Writing a technical paper or an essay for that matter is what you might call an “excruciating experience” for me. Since my English is not perfect, I often find myself looking for the right words to describe something. You see, writing is very much different from talking. During a conversation, when my listener does not understand what I am saying, I can always explain my point by using illustrations or hand signs...
