Name and ID Corse Name and Code Instructor’s Name 26th March 2010 I am a tenacious person who believes in getting it done at the hour when it needs to be done. I do not believe in postponement or procrastination at any cost. I love doing everything to the best result and I love being the best at what I do. Never in my life do I remember a time when I chose or opted for a second position because I am a natural leader. This is made clear by the fact that whenever am in any group and a leadership position arises it so naturally falls on me. One of my major strength is that am a natural leader. Some say leaders are born while others say leaders are made. I thank God for creating me as a leader. This is further made possible by the fact that I am able to take the lead and control major incidents. Am also good at communication skills and I treat people as their personality requires. Am a team player and I can assume any position in a group. Ever since I was born, I find myself drawn to humanitarian activities and civil based activities. I am so passionate about lives, about rescuing the suffering and also about saving any life that is at the risk of being lost. Thus, I have found myself pursuing those activities that involve humanitarian activities. Am currently a student undertaking a course at UCLAN University in BHs: Fire safety and risk management. I found myself interested to pursue this course out of a passion to save lives as I earlier stated. I have also gone for five month training in rescues and ambulance where I have greatly learnt how to cope with the alarming rates of rescue missions that arise all so often. This has been coupled by a seven months training at the police school, which was essential to acquire the basic principles that a person on a rescue mission ought to know. I still have an experience of five years working the fire rescue service that I begun immediately I had undertaken nine months training at the Fire Service College. As a matter of urgency, I found the need to do a year and a half to learn English language. This was necessitated by the fact that in most of the rescue missions that I had to attend most of the people involved spoke English language and once too often there was a break down in communication with the very people we tried to rescue it became quiet difficult to be effective. I was initially good only in speaking Arabic. My main focus is to attain a high rank in my job and I hope to improve my experience to improve the civil defense in the UAE. My hobbies that lighten my day after a long day of work are hunting with falcon, camel racing, horse riding, swimming, and playing football. My main weakness is that I hate with all that I am to see a soul perish in my hands and know that there is nothing I can do to resuscitate them. That breaks me up so emotionally that I can get dreams and dreams about it and blame myself on it repeatedly. Out of the current course that I have been undertaking there have been a lot that I have learnt and this has altogether come through to make me a better and a more qualified person. I have discovered that without these skills I would never have achieved the mark to touch as many lives as effectively as I currently feel capable of. These have generally been in form of audit skills that we have carried out through out the season that I have been studying. The main agenda that has made these be implemented is to help us learn our strengths, weaknesses and also to know what areas we ought to improve. There have been many skills audit as is common for fire fighters to gain a wide range of skills. Moreover, I have learned numerous means in which emergencies can be addressed, and used to solve issues. These fundamentals range from preparedness to recovery of incidents. They include animal rescue where we were to rescue animals whose lives were in jeopardy and actually, there was a bush fire. As is often the case many times some animals have to be burnt beyond recognition and that I learnt is my weakest moment especially if it is beyond my reach to really rescue them. Out of this, I learnt that my weakness is not only for people but also for animals. Rope rescue is also a skill that we learnt where you have to be so keen that you do not loose a life and that the rope is secure enough to hold the lives that it now supports and also to make sure that all is well set to avoid further accidents. We did studies on bush fire which can really be a devastating force. There have also been general studies on smoke alarms and also the inventing of smoke alarms for the deaf and the visually impaired. These help us as we sometimes go for the awareness campaigns which has helped us avail this information to such people as these as a preventative measure. Through these audits I have been able to understand more clearly that I am a natural leader mainly because in many of these skill audits I have been assigned the role of the group leader and I have been able to effectively run the groups. These has also helped me in furthering my leadership skills as well as giving me more content on what I need to do to learn more and more on the requirements. As I earlier stated in my general vision I hope to eventually help in improving the civil defense. I also look forward to a high rank to be able to accomplish this well. As such, all skills I have gained will come through in improving me and making me a better person. I have also learnt that I have to overcome my fear of seeing lives lost because I have learnt to distance myself from the blame so long as I put my best foot forward and learn that there is not much I can do if God takes away the life in question. Communication skills have also been so much emphasized on and I am better now at it. I however know that this has just been the beginning of my study because I know the coming years of my study I will learn more and more and carry out more and more skill audits that will make me more and more competent. The theories that I have been studying even in other modules have been tremendously instrumental to my being effective even at my work place. These have been in such area as the police training that I earlier said I undertook. Here there were several theories that we learnt and all these are quiet essential as I have learnt. One such theory was the theory of law enforcement where we were taught discipline at the highest level and such things as time management and also on how to prioritize events so that we always are on top of events. This I apply every day even in the organizations that I work for and also in this learning institution. I have also learnt the theory of critical thinking which is an area in philosophy and it has helped me to think more intensively in my rescue missions so that I always think fast and critically whenever the situation calls for urgent action. I now can more easily think of what I am doing more intently and give priority to the first things first. The personal and professional development program has actually helped me become a better person and has improved my thought system. I am a better person than who I was for I have learnt to master my emotions and weaknesses. I have also been able to improve my leadership skills so that I can even lead a very large group than what I could initially lead. I am better practitioner than I was to start with thanks to the skills learnt through PDP. Generally, the course content and other activities that I have been involved with have improved on my personal perception regarding activities and tasks. Moreover, it has provided an opportunity in which I can effectively fulfill the requirements of UAE, ensuring the society and community’s efficiency and effectiveness is achieved. Read More
