How to Become an Effective Leader - Admission/Application Essay Example

Leadership is defined as a process whereby individual influences a group of individuals to achieve a common goal (Northouse, 12). LIM College defines leadership as "inspiring others to strive and enabling them to accomplish great things." Examining both definitions of leadership, influence is the core trait that determines a leader.

            LIM College believes that great things and great leadership can be accomplished in pursuit of business and social goals – the kind of leadership that is in me ever since I was a child. I was so fascinated with the fashion industry that it served as my goal in pursuing a Master of Business Administration degree with a concentration in Marketing. With Lubin School of Business, I will become a successful employee or entrepreneur someday of a multinational fashion or luxury goods corporation.

            Aside from fashion, I am also dedicated to achieving goals. I received my undergraduate degree with a major in social work and a minor in computer science from Glazov State Teachers’ Training Institute, where I received annual scholarships for distinctive academic success I graduated from Glazov with a GPA of 3.5 in 2006. I participated in the regional program for youths, Future Leaders and started working part-time as a counselor in Glazov Social Service for Adults with Mental Illness. It was not easy to become a perfect leader but regional activities hone my leadership skills. My part-time work had taught me how to be dynamic and had developed my multi-tasking skills in assessing and analyzing various social service cases. I have worked in a dynamic environment where challenges are always present.

One of the greatest challenges I faced was when I move to New York in order to pursue my dream. I have to live on my own in striving for better opportunities for higher education and my dream of a marketing career. CUNY John Jay College helped me with my desire to improve my language and communication skills. I got a GPA of 3.9 and was honored to be on the Dean’s List.
