The richness and array of challenges contribute to the holistic development of an individual that is instrumental in facing future endeavors. In this regard, the objective of this essay is to proffer issues and concerns that make applying to a prospective university a challenging but rewarding experience.
As an international student from Taiwan, I was given the privilege of studying in New York for two years now. The experience had been an exhilarating journey filled with an unexpected turn of events. Coming from a different culture, I was initially submerged in a place known to many as the land of milk and honey. With all the comforts and amenities in life accorded by technology and people with open minds and hearts, my recluse and timid personality soon blossomed into gregariousness and optimism.
It is with this enthusiasm that I look forward to applying to Lynn University in Boca Raton, Florida. My search led me to find the perfect location to pursue higher education to delve into the field of Psychology. At Lynn University, I was made aware that they offer a multidisciplinary approach to learning. I admire their mission of providing “the education, support, and environment that enable individual students to realize their full potential and to prepare for success in the world” (Lynn: Mission, 2005, par. 2).
I am aware that I would be facing challenges in terms of complying with higher levels of academic requirements to hone my knowledge, skill, and abilities in the field of endeavor I choose to delve into. New tasks would come in the form of developing critical essays and research that require analytical skills. I should develop skills in time management, team building, creating support through study groups, and being part of professional learning communities or learning organizations. I get to make my schedule and prioritize activities according to accurately defined time frames. Interpersonal and communication skills need to be further developed to avoid misunderstandings given the diversity of culture within the university. I am cognizant of the fact that failures are part of life as they provide opportunities to develop courage and objectively assess one’s weaknesses as a prelude to capitalization of strengths and competencies.
I am prepared to meet these challenges. I remain steadfast in my dream to continue higher education and apply the best qualifications I have to address whatever is in store for me. I know that by forming new alliances, a circle of friends, study groups, and support systems, I would be determined and equipped to go one step further and enthusiastically as well as optimistically anticipate what lies ahead.
