What Baltimore has to offer the tourist. The of Baltimore is located in the heart of the of Maryland and it has many attractions to offerthe tourist whatever the season of the year. It has an interesting mix of historical and modern architecture to suit all tastes. For animal lovers there is a zoo and also an extensive Aquarium and both of these offer tours and educational events. The harbour area has external walkways and a stunning internal mall for those who like to shop while taking in the attractive waterway surroundings.

The city is famous because it is the birthplace of Babe Ruth the baseball player, and fans can visit a museum which has been established to celebrate his sporting achievements. There are many other museums also, including a Toy Museum and several on the theme of Black American History, including a “National Great Blacks in Wax Museum.” The city boasts several locations which are important in the history of jazz. There are also museums of Art, Industry, Streetcars and Railroad. Another famous personality from Baltimore is the writer Edgar Allan Poe, and visitors can find out more about him at the Edgar Allen Poe House, or pay their respects at his gravestone nearby.

For visitors who like to be active there are sailing trips and in the winter also skating activities, since the waterways have always been important to Baltimore culture. The city offers a wide variety of different cuisines, reflecting its melting pot history. The most famous local dish is seafood and especially lump crabcakes and it is highly recommended that visitors try this delicious dish and get to know the friendly local people.
