Introduction The development of new wound care techniques along with the usage of old techniques are on a rise as it helps to provide better services and medication to patients. Cleansing is one vital aspect of wound management as it is applied to different therapeutic purposes which are based on experiences, service policy and personal preference. Different nurses carry out different procedures on patients but don’t understand the rationale behind it as they are directed by the concerned person to act in that manner (Young, 2003). This requires that health policy providers develop a mechanism which is based on evidence based care so that the different practitioners are able to provide correct techniques based on the wound of the patient (Dire & Welsh, 2010). The procedure of using a wound swab might appear simple but it is a topic of debate and requires strong justification while looking to use a particular method. The article thereby concentrates on the wound care techniques which can be used on patients depending on different situations and the manner in which it will provide effectiveness in rendering health care. The study thereby looks to present past literature findings on health care techniques which can be used for wound care. The techniques along with the implications it has on performance and mechanism through which medication is provided. The paper will also explore different wound care techniques with relation to debridement through the use of ultrasound and ultrasonography in wound care treatment; the wound care techniques used in the field of plastic surgery and other aspects. This will thereby help to differentiate the manner in which different wound care techniques need to be adopted based on the wound and requires an evidence based practice to provide complete and correct medication. Discussion While conducting research it was found that some of the studies were old and were more than 25 years old. These studies deem to be less relevant in the modern era due to the development of new and modern wound care techniques as a result of which the focus was laid on research carried out in the last 15 years. Research has highlighted that the use of antiseptic solutions helps in the healing process which has thereby resulted in the use of normal saline as a cleansing solution for most wounds at the initial stage. Despite the use of antiseptic solutions wound care authorities are not able to provide the different advantages in which sterile solutions provide over non sterile solutions like tap water (Goldber, Rosenthal & Nemetz, 2001). This thereby also results in tap water to be used as an effective solution for cleansing a wound. Appropriate techniques which can be used for cleansing wounds are still a contentious issue as no predetermined method is the best. The traditional method used for swabbing wounds has shown signs of tissue trauma and compromise healing. This paper analyses the different techniques which helps to improve the quality of wound treatment and shows the manner in which using newly developed methods help to fill the gap in which the traditional method has and maximizes the healing process (Hess, 2008). The research which is carried out in a hospital setting shows the manner in which using new and developed maggot debridement as a technique for wound treatment provides better results and ensures that the overall treatment is improved (Gottrup & Jorgensen 2011). This research also integrates the traditional method and shows the manner in which newly developed methods can take place so that better treatment and health care facilities are provided. The irrigation of wound is thereby gaining widespread recognition due to the different benefits associated with the preservation of granulating tissue, removal of bacteria along with debris and patient comfort which has helped to maximize the efficiency through which better health care facilities can be developed. A study which further substantiated the same shows that developing and having proper equipments and medicines help to facilitate the process in which health care facilities are provided. This is in addition to the fact that different methods and technology has to be used and continuous changes have to be made so that the infection rate of healing improves and the patients get better care (Schultz, Sibbald & Falanga, 2003). The different clinical areas need to take control of the activities and guide the overall process so that health care management techniques used for wound cleaning is improved. This has helped to develop a process which looks at better wound management techniques and maximizes the overall evidence through which different medication services are provided. A study even highlights that the different debridement techniques through the use of ultrasound and ultrasonography helps to provide better wound care treatment. The rise in the cost of wound care techniques has increased the need and importance of using appropriate methods for wound care (Anderson, 2006). The paper also highlights the use of new and improved techniques along with traditional methods so that the process of wound care treatment is improved and the patients are provided with better care facilities. The research is limited to the fact that it doesn’t highlight modern techniques which can be used for debridement of different wounds for better facilities (Schoenbach & Song, 2010). This is supported by another study which identifies the same in a health care setting and highlights the manner in which using different techniques for wound cleaning helps to improve the rate of cleaning and also provides an overview through which better care and delivery standards are developed (Ramundo & Gray, 2008). The research which is carried out over several different health care institutions highlights the manner in which the effectiveness of wound care treatment is maximized and the manner in which the process provides better effectiveness in dealing with different wound care treatments (Lawrence, 2008). The different wound swab treatments are useful when they are accompanied by a complete specimen request form so that adequate information could be provided otherwise it could result in the production of an incorrect report (Donovan, 2008). The mechanism of wound cleansing which is used on chronic wounds is further different which results in a different healing process. In addition to it the manner in which technology has improved has provided the scope for the development of new and better techniques which can be used for different chronic wounds (Kiernan, 2008). This has multiplied the effectiveness of new methods to be used on wound cleansing and has thereby helped to develop new and better techniques which are aimed at improving the process of healing. Recommendations The process of providing wound care techniques needs to be based on the chronic disease that the patient has been diagnosed. No predetermined notion regarding the techniques which will be used for wound management can be ascertained as the situation of the disease that the patient is suffering will determine the process in which can be used. It has also been identified that antiseptic solutions help in the healing process which has thereby resulted in the use of normal saline as a cleansing solution for most wounds at the initial stage (Gilchrist, 2007). Despite the usage of antiseptic solutions at the initial stage the process which needs to be further followed will depend on the situation and the wound the patient presenting with. The wound care techniques which are used need to be chosen in such a manner that it has a mix of traditional as well as newly developed stratagies. This will help to fill the gap which is present in wound care treatment techniques and will provide an opportunity through which better care can be provided to patients. There has to be a match to ascertain that the cost for wound care methods remain within the reach of patients (Cuzzell, 2003). For example the use of debridement techniques for ultrasound and ultrasonography help to provide better wound care management. This technique used is costly but helps to provide better treatment and ensures better cure for the patient. The use of techniques for wound care thereby need to be selected carefully including looking at different options in order to select the best treatment to be used on the patient. In addition the process of wound care techniques show that developing and having the proper equipment and medicines help to facilitate the process in which health care facilities are provided. This is in addition to the fact that different methods and technology have to be used and continuous changes have to be made so that the infection rate of healing improves and better care can be provided to patients (Benbow, 2010). This will help to improve the overall mechanism of providing different wound care treatments and will ensure that the patients are able to recover in the best possible manner. Conclusion Wound care techniques is an area of health care which is gaining importance as the development of new and better techniques look to provide better health care facilities are being developed. This has resulted in the development of better techniques which have replaced traditional methods. This makes it imperative that health care practitioners adopt the method which they seem to be the most suitable and the selection of method should be based on evidence based practices. This will help to use wound care techniques based on the chronic disease and health of the patient and will not look towards having a predetermined mechanism or notion towards using one method.
