Extract of sample "Evaluating Nursing Theories"

Evaluating nursing theories has enabled me to appreciate the theory-developing process. This is because theory evaluation combines objective and subjective findings that give room for cognizant critique of a theory before and after research (Dudley-Brown, 2004). For example, Paplau’s theory, which defines nursing as a therapeutic and interpersonal process, calls for a keener analysis. Its evaluation has given me a reason to delve into nursing books in order to find out additional information about the profession (Risjord, 2011).

Understanding the significance of evaluating theories by learning this unit has enabled me to comprehend the development theory which explicates the process of human development, and that human life ends at death. As a nurse working in the emergency room, appreciating and understanding the developmental theory is beneficial to me since I experience more instances of death than other medical professionals in other departments. Therefore, when people die in the emergency room, my psychological state and job performance would not be affected.
