Thus, there are standards put in place by the agency for the programs to demonstrate their quality and integrity. One of the CCNE standards is the program’s effectiveness. The undergraduate nursing program should fulfill the missions, goals, faculty, and expected student outcomes (Keating, 2010). The student outcomes of the programs are usually compared with those that are expected to identify areas of discrepancy. Data related to alumni satisfaction and the accomplishment made by the students attest to how effective the program works.
For example, positive student outcomes reflect that the learning and the teaching practices at the institution are in line with each other. The second standard requirement from CCNE is that the program proves that it is of good quality. For example, an undergraduate program should ensure that its missions and goals set by the institution are in line with those set by the parent institution. They should also be in line with the needs of the community involved. The parent institution should show that it continues to support the nursing program and provides the resources necessary for the program to attain the goals and missions it sets.
Therefore, this is possible when the faculty and the students of the program get involved in program governance in an effort to promote the quality of undergraduate programs.
