The study only requires the participants who are 65 years of age and above for a survey. These participants had the characteristics that the study aimed to look at. For instance, the data shows that many chronic medications are common in the old age population. There are at least three to five chronic diseases in the elderly population resulting in a mean of 3.29+- 1.45. The study again shows that most of the elderly receive more than five medications. This has been shown from the calculations of the mean number of chronic medications The category of participants as indicated in the article is very precise hence the goal of the study also becomes exact and easier to achieve (Lee et al., 2013). As mentioned earlier, the study design for the study in this case is a quantitative survey.

The sampling method used according to the article is a simple random sampling technique. The research method and sampling method is connected here because in a survey like this, the statistical data meet certain assumptions thus ensuring sufficient representation in the final sample to support separate analyses. For instance, the main population under study here are the elderly aged 65 years and above, who did not have a normal social life and network, did not have family support and were not linked to the existing network of community support (Lee et al., 2013). The sample is stated in the article to comprise of the elderly hidden who are aged 65 years or more.

Secondly, the population sample is specified not to have a normal social life, association and family support. The population sample was not linked to the existing network of community support. These characteristics of the study samples have been precisely mentioned in the article (Lee et al., 2013). The participants were selected in a systemic manner.
