Surprisingly maltreatment is not limited to homes, public places, workplaces, and offices. Now, it has extended even to schools. All the forms of maltreatment (above-mentioned) have been found in practice within the boundary of a school.

Who can stop and notify maltreatment in schools?
In this regard, the role of the school nurse is very important. A school nurse interacts with children on regular basis; therefore, she should have sufficient knowledge about different child maltreatment laws. If the nurse finds any sign of maltreatment, she should immediately report it to CPS (Child Protective Services). The CPS will investigate the matter in detail. Moreover, the practice of school nurses and its standards also emphasize reporting maltreatment incidents and taking adequate actions against child maltreatment (American Nurses Association (ANA) & National Association of School Nurses (NASN, 2011).

According to NASN (2011), School nurses are accountable for the following:

• Helping maltreatment child
• Imparting education to other staff regarding maltreatment signs and treatment
• Should know how to process reports about maltreatment
• Identification of the abused student

Society has observed Children’s maltreatment at all levels. However, in schools nurses can control it significantly. Therefore, nurses have greater responsibilities regarding their growth in education and learning relevant laws.
