Occupational Changes in Nursing: The Situation of Enrolled Nurses al Affiliation This article presents a research about the incessant adjustments in the career duties of qualified nurses in the United Kingdom and the effect of these changes to their occupational organization. Nurses are undertaking a more expert role and the number of tasks being assigned to assertive personnel is on the increase.

“By accepting continual changes to the role of the nurse, the core function of nursing has become obscured and, despite assuming medical tasks, the occupation continues to be seen in terms of a role that is subordinate to and dependent on medicine.” (2004) These continuous changes taking place have made it challenging to clearly distinguish the roles of enrolled nurses in England. “Previously, having two levels of qualified nurse in the United Kingdom had been seen as problematic for health service managers and nurses themselves, and the ending of enrolled nurse programs in 1992 helped to solve this problem.” (2004) The research collected data about the attributes of various groups of enrolled nurses and the factors that predict conversion to registered nurse.

The research shows the current state of affairs in duty delegation for enrolled nurses based on the ongoing trend towards professionalization of nursing.
