Since nursing shortage is one of the most severe and intimidating scenarios faced by the healthcare industry in the present day, the problem leads to massive decline in the quality and exactness relating to the healthcare of the patient. The study was conducted in one hospital in the town. The participants comprised of healthcare experts, as well as, the nursing staff. The study involved interviews as a data collection technique. The data collected was analyzed to find the factors that are creating the looming shortage in the industry. The nurses are decreasing in number in many countries of the world, and the number of people suffering from different diseases is increasing. A few nurses who are ready to assist people for many reasons and shortage of nurses are creating many impacts on patients as well as the healthcare industry. In general, the aim of the study was to find the impact on the shortage of the nurses in the healthcare industry concerning the quality of the service the nurses provide in comparison to the previous times when the nursing shortage was not a problem. Summary of the findings From the findings of the research one gets to interpret that, the working nurses are under pressure due to the shortage of nurses in the hospital. Moreover, there are signs of lack job satisfaction from the premises since they have considered finding better paying jobs in the country. The facility on the other hand has not made any amends to the looming danger of losing nurses hence they lacked initiative to make the nurses stay. There is no retention plan in the hospital that can curb the prevailing trend of nurse loss in the facility. More so, the synchrony in the facility is out of line making the care vulnerable to mistakes. This implies there is little accuracy in the service rendering in the facility. The fatigue the nurses are experiencing in the hospital with little coordination from the administration leads to more trouble since the lack of direction make the daily activities in the hospital collide causing chaos in the service. However, the nurses have tried to curb the obstacles through a series of teamwork and perseverance. The environment of the hospital is not having a good environment for the hospitals reputation in terms of the administrations mandate in the hospital. The environment may not portray the hospital in the good light citing the frustrated staff that can snap and utter inappropriate message to the stakeholders costing the hospital directly or indirectly. Looking into the inferences the participants gave toward their perceptions, some of the blame shifted to the administration for neglecting the workforce in the hospital and lacking fostering of healthy working environment that would otherwise lead to better production in terms of the services rendered to the patients who visit the facility. Nonetheless, the facility has a motivated group focused on the service and that made the inferences of the hospital performance not as pronounced as compared to a facility that has internal politics and hostility. The demographics of the hospital workers portray a high rate of the workers being old. The interpretation it gives is that the majority of the nurses is old and would retire soon before finding an adequate number of nurses that would fill the gap they leave behind. The incentives in the facility do give an appropriate reason for the low turnout of the nurses serving the hospital. The nurse’s majority have several children and families they take care of and need more money for the same reason. The perceptions in many nurses mind are to find a better paying career to fulfill their needs. This aspect was so prominent that the nurses were convinced that the look into other better options in the administration of the hospital and financial issues would be preferable as compared to the jobs out there they are not yet trained for Many nurses articulate it is not that they do not want to assist the masses but they feel they require more in the provisions for their families. These direct them into searching of other alternatives that would be enhanced as compared to that of nursing. The nurse further thinks the unfriendliness in the nursing setting from the superior and doctors is a factor that leads to the lack of optimism in the occupation. The administrators’ inferences were evidently pointing at the lack of sufficient replacement of nurses that leads to nurse scarcity. Another observation, which is evident, was the fact that the nurses saw it was a stringent career before one is certified as a nurse in the country. Some say students lose interest along the way.These observations were very instrumental in the collection of the causatives of the scarcity.This result wascompiled from the questionnaire, which were the preferred method of collection of the data in the research. The questionnaires were the best option in the study. Recommendations The first recommendation for the hospital is the fact of having a contributive environment to encourage the retention of the nurses already in the profession. More over the environment is required to make the recruitment groups more compliant to the new facility. The environment is a very lucrative point in every person’s life for it dictates the type of life nurses want to associate their normal routine with. If the environment is conducive, they tend to remain in the comfort of the surrounding. If it never suits their needs, they find better avenues to venture out. This is a reality nursing departments in hospitals needs to look. This can be done by increasing the nursing faculty, mentoring the new nurses into better persons in the hospital. To increase the financial package and make them love their payment. This will boost morale in the hospital creating better performance and productivity. It further gives the staff a better look at the profession in terms of the viability and compensation. Secondly, the hospital needs to utilize the facilities in collaboration with the quality nursing education to produce more nurses in conjunction with universities that give the medical trainings. These collaborative structures in the hospital will ensure a steady supply of the nurses in the hospital every year. Furthermore, creating a campaign in the country in collaboration with the American Association of Certified Nurses to encourage students on taking the course as a good degree to achieve will also work in favor for the nursing industry, as students would become more interested in the course that is useful to humanity. Another prominent recommendation in my mind is the creation of roles for the retiring nurse faculty, which will help save their skills in other people as instructors and mentors to the new nurses who come in to replace them. Encouragement to the facilities to provide funds in order to educate more nurses is also a good way to outsource the funding for reducing the rates of shortage. Implications and Limitations of the Project There are several implications that come with the nurse shortage in the hospital. Firstly, the quality of work in the hospital becomes poor as compared to well-staffed health care centers. The implication of this project is the fact that it produced concrete evidence that eh shortage in the hospital is an obstacle in the service production of the premise. The main fact of this project is to gain understanding on why the nurse shortage is a trending phenomenon in the country. During the research the project, prove that there is need to make amend to the shortage and if not the number of nurses will continue to diminish citing the aging population of nurses being very high now. Another significance of the project was to get the perceptions of the nurses, which gave inference that a lot has to be done on the hospital environment, synchrony, management, administration and the general staff. The limitation of the project was the fact that the preferred collection method was only questionnaire, which is not very lucrative in terms of the accuracy. If other data collection methods were incorporated into, the research to assist in the data collection it would have been efficient and trusted. Additionally, the use of a single hospital is not universal to conclude on the current situation in the hospitals. Incorporation on at least three or four different hospitals would create convincing information on the subject. Weakness The major weakness the study had was the use of questionnaire alone as a collection instrument only. If other methods had been included, they would have given theobtained information more merit. Secondly, the study needed more than one hospital to boost its credentials in the information collected. With information from two of more hospitals, the trust in the information would increase tremendously since they would be presenting several persons ideas. It is less hard to believe many than the few so use of majority would have upped the information credit in this case. Strengths The greatest strength in the study is the fact that it was done by few participants who were more experienced and have seen several phases of the nursing industry. Their ideas were very lucrative in the finding of the solutions to the shortage. The use of one hospital reduced the complexity of the endeavors of the study. Generally, the study was voluntary meaning the people would only be included at their own will in the study. This made sure the participants were true to the course. Problems noted There was a bit of unsynchronized tendency in the hospital making the process a difficult one in terms of the data collection in the study. For several reasons the participants found themselves on duty due to the shortage and covering the spots where there were no nurses. There was regular procrastination that was not healthy for the time factor of the research. Another problem is that the project depended on the particular group of people hence needed them in the research. This limited the relevance of the study. Factors that skewed the results The main issues that made the results twisted were the fact that the administration was there to save its reputation and the nurses thought it a chance to expose them. The self-interest in the study was high and made some of the result biased and vengeful. Another issue that twisted the result was the hurry the nurses were in to complete since they were alert that their staff members were having a rough time in the facility. What to do next if it was done again If it was done again, the need to broaden the scope the methods and the collection methods increased in order to have a quantitative and qualitative analysis of the data obtained. Further contact would be better to help study the answers in a one to one point of view. More importantly, is the fact that the information base will be increased to give better inferences on the information. To boost trust the use of suggestion questions that would be more lucrative to make sure the staff feels as the idea givers and give more into the matter. CONCLUSION The study focus was to improve the nursing workforce in hospitals and other healthcare sectors through, the determination of the components that pressure the culture of maintenance, the determination of the job safety and guarantee through the upgrading in the financial appraisal, and the establishment of the policies and strategies to advance nurse contentment and devotion towards their work. The results of the study were provided through the interviews of the nurses who work in the hospital of choice. The results indicate a great need for the facilities and the federal government to make amends to the looming case in the country. The improvisation of retention and appraisals for the nurses may go a long way to make a good notion of the profession. Encouragement to students is also a viable angle to make them want to do the nursing course. The inferences further show that the gap of the nurses in the country needs to be handled before the problem escalates. Critique of the Masters journey The time I have spent pursuing this master’s degree has mostly been instrumental into what I have become now. A true long life learner who will be up for the competitive market in the nursing industry is a quality that did not pass my reach. With the standards of nursing high, the journey has taught me to be inventive, intuitive, attentive and more so to have the hope for better future in the nursing industry. However, the paradigms of the course are changing each day and if the old methods are not replaced in a good change up plan the situation in the nursing industry is going to escalate. In general, I love the process I have undergone both as a scholar and a professional in the nursing field which make me proud to say I achieve a goal among many in the future. Read More
