Teaching Strategy and Rationale Institute: The lesson will be designed to meet the following Andragogical concepts as follows Need to know Nurses should be able to understand that impact that learning will have on their career but also on their patients. The lesson will be on heart failure medication and, therefore, the nurses will need to understand how serious it can be if they are not able to give the right heart failure medication. Nurses are supposed to show great care in their duty, and it is important to understand the intricacies of heart failure medication.
In this regard, the lesson will be established in light of the nurses understanding the importance of the lesson.2. ExperienceAccording to Knowles (1973), the other tenet of andralogy is the fact that adults are inherently motivated to learn by their experiences, whether good or bad. This presentation will, therefore, be based on experiences on two fronts. The first front is the experience of other nurses, that is, historical experiences, which have been accumulated in the issue of heart failure medication.
The lesson will make sure that the nurses have a clear history of the issue of heart failure medication. In this case it will be necessary to highlight the various serious errors made by other nurses while giving heart failure medication. This will help in achieving point 1 above (need to know) because the nurses will appreciate the delicate nature of the matter and get the reason why it is necessary to really take this lesson in order to avoid these mistakes. The second front will be the nurses own experiences.
To help them to recall their own mistakes, the nurses will be asked to reflect in the various difficulties they have had in giving the heart failure medication and other types of medication.3. Self drive for educationThis is probably the centre of the andralogical theory of learning. According to Knowles (1973), adults should have a self drive, a self concept for learning. In this regard, the lesson will be decided to help the nurses not only learn from the single presentation but as a way to increase their appetite on the topic so that they can delve into the topic in depth later on their own.4. Relevance to their workKnowles (1973) also suggested that adults are most interested in learning if they believe that the knowledge will have to an immediate relevance to their live or filed of work.
Definitely, the nurses will find heart failure medication lesson relevant to their lives and career.5. Solution oriented knowledge acquisitionAdults are more likely to be interested in education that is cantered towards solving a problem as opposed to just knowledge that will increase their knowledge. In this regard, it will be necessary for this lesson (presentation) to be centred towards solving a certain problem. In regard to this, the lesson will need to emphasize on the fact that the issue is the delicate issue of heart failure medication.
Once the students understand the fact that there is an issue of risk of wrong heart failure medication which needs to be addressed, the nurses will be more inspired to take the lesson and even have more interest.Reference:Knowles, M.
