In a healing hospital, the focus is not just to provide treatment to patients; rather the actual aim is to provide an everlasting healing experience to all members of the community. Let us now discuss three main components of healing hospitals that include a real therapeutic environment, healing physical settings, and incorporation of work design and technology (Mercy Gilbert Medical Center [MGMC], 2012). A Culture of Love and Care The culture of love and care in a hospital where all members of community including caregivers and families of patients journey towards wellness is one of the main components of a healing hospital. A hospital is a healing community if it promotes a culture of love and care for patients and their families. It is a fact that a patient recovers quickly if health care professionals deal with him/her with extreme care and attention. The reason is that therapeutic care is such a factor that plays a key role in mental and spiritual recovery of a person (VandeCreek, 2000, p. 48). A hospital working as a healing community integrates love, care, and affection in the medical and spiritual treatment of patients. In healing environments, caregivers see patients as their own family members and try to provide the love and care that patients may expect from them. Patients come to hospitals in fear and depression that occur due to their medical condition. They need good therapeutic care in order to recover positively. As Ebrest (n.d.) states, “a Healing Hospital’s environment helps to make that stressful time a positive one through compassion and commitment to service and excellence.” In healing hospitals, all people hold the responsibility to foster a care-giving environment. As Kreitzer (2011) states, “one common effect of healing is a reduction in stress and anxiety which, in turn, positively impacts our bodies in many ways.” Another thing that really matters in healing hospitals is the recruitment of such professionals who should also be able to meet the spiritual needs of patients along with physical treatment. This is the reason why during the process of recruitment administration of healing hospitals focuses on behavior of employees, as well as on their ability to maintain interpersonal relationships with patients. Because of this approach towards employee selection, such employees get the opportunity to work in healing hospitals who possess a number of spiritual characteristics such as nice attitude, loving nature, ability to develop good relationships with patients, and passion to provide proper care to patients. Human interaction, interpersonal care, and supportive human experiences are such elements of a healing environment that foster a perfect patient-doctor relationship. In healing hospitals, people are of core value and that value adds to the beauty of health care delivery system. All religions of the world focus on human love and care and promote the development of healthy relationships between people. A true healing environmen ...Download file to see next pagesRead More
