Chapman (2003) states that healing care is the mix of clinical care and loving care (p. 80). Three components of a healing hospital include a healing physical environment, a culture of love and care for patients, and integration of technology and work design. A Healing Physical Environment One of the main components of a healing hospital is a healing physical environment. A good healing physical environment is one, which helps patients deal with the stresses in a successful manner through the efforts of both doctors and employees.

Doctors provide effective treatments to the patients and care for them whereas employees play the role of caregivers for the families of the patients. A true healing environment is very close to the concept of spirituality. The environment of a healing hospital is such that there is little or no noise at all in the patient care areas. Emotional, spiritual, and physical wellness of the patients is given top priority in a healing environment. A quiet environment, carpeted hallways, and provision of facilities are some of the main aspects of a healing environment.

A Culture of Love and Care for Patients This is the most important component of a healing hospital. A healing hospital is one, which promotes the culture of love and care for the patients. . Proper healthcare services include effective treatment facilities along with provision of love, care, and emotional support to patients and their families. A pure healing hospital not only meets physical health needs of the patients but also takes care of patients’ emotional and spiritual needs. The administration of a healing hospital does not hire such employees who only possess professional skills.

Rather the administration hires such employees who not only have required professional skills and abilities but also possess spiritual characteristics, such as, loving nature, nice attitude, and passion to take good care of patients. “A Healing Hospital’s environment helps to make that stressful time a positive one through compassion and commitment to service and excellence” (Eberst, n.d.). Integration of Technology and Work Design Use of technology in designing a healing environment helps staff provides security and privacy to the patients.

Patients have a great concern about their privacy and a healing hospital is one in which staff really takes care of patients’ privacy in their stressful times. Use of technology also expedites the processes of taking medical tests and generation of results. Light music in hallways, peaceful atmosphere, and availability of basic facilities in wards are some of the key features of technology based healing hospitals. Challenges in Creating a Healing Environment In light of barriers and complexities of the hospital environment, there exist some challenges, which a hospital’s administration needs to overcome successfully in order to create a pure healing environment in the hospital.

Some of those challenges include: Dealing with such
