Choreography Choreography refers to the practice or art of designing movement sequence of body defined by the both specified motion and form. A choreographer is the designer of body movements applied in various fields including cinematography, cheerleading, gymnastics, fashion shows, matching band, ice skating, theatre, synchronized, video game production, and swimming. The most popular use of choreography is dance competitions. The essay is an opinion about a video entitled Uptown Funk – Easy Kids Dance Fitness Warming up, from Woerden Nederland.

The dance crew comprises young children and a leader from Saskia’s Dansschool dancing to the rhythm of Bruno Mars. The choreography is an outstanding composition. The song is an interesting one for the age of characters. Given the characters dancing to the tune, who are young teenagers, the song by Bruno Mars is a perfect blend. The troop display various original artistic moves that all the characters follow in unison. The team is well spread on the dais, and the movement ensures maximum use of the platform.

An ideal performance requires that performers change levels all through the dance. The characters are constantly changing position or formation while on the dance floor. However, the entire performance is in a standing position. The movements should entail various body positions such a lying, bending, and standing. The choreographer should have designed various movements to add vigor more to the dance. Though most of the time, the dance ensures uniformity, it doesn’t come out as perfect and at the end, the climax is marked with non-uniform moves.

Though it could be a design by the choreographer, it does not come clear the intention of the designer (Saskia’s Dansschool 1: 32). Beyond the dance display, of interest is the costumes of performance. Such creates a harmony to performance making more appealing to the audience. Costumes just like dexterous moves by a troop creates uniformity in the performance. In the video, the dancers display matching outfit. Same trouser design, shoes, and tops such that there is outfit uniformity. The dancers also perform while changing costumes.

At one point, they perform with jackets on and at other times with vests on. Changing costumes is recommended though of concern when the characters are of tender age. Finally, the costumes are modest which does not provide the required flexibility in such rigorous moves. Towards the end of the performance, of the actors can hardly maintain position making her topple over (Saskia’s Dansschool 2:11). While designing choreographic moves, it is important that the designer considers the age of the characters likely to act the moves.

The choice involves the technical ability, flexibility, and energy. The actors in the video appear to be of a young teenage group with energy to dance to the rhythm. The dancers seem to enjoy the moves and follow every move. The troop also comprise of boy male and female member providing a conventional team. The dancers are also of the same height except for the lead dancer (Saskia’s Dansschool 1: 32). In summary, choreography has basic elements, which dancers and actors must follow for perfect performance.

Such include body shapes, movements, time factors (rhythm, tempo, canon), space, force, flow, repetition, sequence and transition. The video displays an outstanding performance by the teenagers. The dancing, costumes, space, movements, rhythms and flow show originality, creativity, and uniformity of a desirable quality. Works cited Saskia’s Dansschool.
