Just as Gustav Mahler once said, “If a composer could say what he had to say in words he would not bother trying to say it in music.” One of the most distinguished composers of the 19th century is Frédéric Chopin. Chopin was a Polish composer and virtuoso pianist, and is considered by many as the epitome of the Romantic style in classical music. Regarded as a child prodigy pianist, I look up to him, as my model and inspiration, since I too, play the piano. Chopin’s works are masterpieces and mainstays of the Romanticism in the 19th century. One of the major innovations in forms of music that he was responsible for is the nocturne.
The nocturne is basically a work of art dealing with evening or night, usually a dreamy pensive piano composition. Having written 21 of these, Chopin’s nocturnes are written in a somewhat melancholy style, with an expressive dreamy melody, over broken-chord accompaniment. The major of Chopin’s nocturnes adopt a simple A-B-A form, wherein the A part is usually in a dreamy style, and the B style is a part of a more dramatic content. Considering the melody, harmony, and originality of piano style, Chopin’s nocturnes leave other composers behind, although his style is very much similar with Bellini’s cavatina. ...Download file to see next pagesRead More

Kate Chopin
...? Awakening the Female in Kate Chopin’s Works Kate Chopin lived and worked in a time when women were not expected to work or do anything for themselves. For many overworked women today, this may seem like an ideal situation. However, as Chopin points out again and again in her short stories and novels, this led to a condition in which women were not able to seek the full expression of their characters in deference to fulfilling their proper roles as wives and mothers. They lived lives of desperation, never able to fully express or explore their own inner inclinations. On the rare occasion when one 'woke up' from her enforced dullness, she was either reduced in social status, ruined...

Analysis of Contemporary Music
...Analysis of music Introduction: This essay undertakes a comparison of a modern piece of Japanese music d Chidori no kyoku (Song of the plover) and compares it to a French impressionist piece of music titled Prélude à l’après-midi d’un faune ( The prelude to the Afternoon of a Faun), a French Impressionist piece by Claude Debussy. Chidori no Kyoku: This piece is also based upon the concept of nature, but its subject is the beautiful plovers as they soar in the sky. Analysis of Regret by Kate Chopin
Most of her stories are about confrontations between individuals and society’s expectations from them, where her unconventional heroines more often than not, choose the road less traveled. Chopin’s feminist writings were frowned upon in the period when they were written because they were considered to be “the psychological, physical, social and sexual emancipation” (Toth, 242) of her works that appealed to the readers of the 1950’s, who identified with a woman’s need for freedom. “Regret” is the story of Mamzelle Aurelie, a strong-willed, independent woman who shunned the comfortable trap of matrimony and instead chose to live all by herself on a farm, surrounded by her animals, hap...

...Music History (Final Project) -- Soundtrack of My Life There are certain artists and musicians who would never stepout of fad or run out of followers when it comes to either the beat of the song or the relevance its lyrical content brings as it affects one’s state of emotions. During my early days, I was least sure that Michael Jackson’s ‘Happy’ was a song of the past yet I used to relish its sound and substance altogether, finding how it could well relate to the nature of my childhood. Dramatically beginning with ‘Sadness had been close as my next of kin’, as a child, it felt relieving to have come to understand that the essence of sadness works to make ‘happiness’ more meaningful. At a tender age of...
