Several companies have been sourcing materials for their projects or for general organizational use from certain suppliers without doing sufficient evaluation to find out the best suppliers to source from. This has landed them into big trouble; they dont get the best suppliers hence end up getting the materials at higher costs than they could get at if enough research on suppliers was done approprietely. Suchsuppliers have not been reliable and hence the business end up not getting the best in terms of material sourcing.
During the process of procurement, for the firm to be in a competitive position in the market, there would be need to lower the potential costs of the project materials and components. This is achieved by sourcing from the most competent suppliers who have the least-cost and best quality. This would assist the organization to get guidelines and more potential sources that would be utilized in the necessary strategic planning for purchasing the materials and components when needed. Such an approach would also assist the organization to enhance its procurement policies.
One such approach would be the use of check list for examination of the suitability of suppliers. While selecting a supplier, it would be necessary to be having a check list that eveluates the suitability of the supplier. The frequency of using the checklist and its thoroughness depends on the needs of the company. Some of the factors to consider while selecting a supplier include the number opf the employees, their location and how critical they are. Others include geographical considerations such as the nature of the spread of the offices, and the kind of such offices.
One has to consider the number of other clients that the supplier has worked with before in similar projects, what the supplier has done with other parts of the business and if they have done any job for your rival
