The career counselors work with those individuals who are starting their careers and seek professional counseling in this regard and with those who are professionals and are interested in changing their professions if it is inappropriate for their skills, mental capability or interest. For career counselors, it would be almost impossible to advice clients without psychological know how and assessment methods. Mostly, assessments are made by interest inventories, cognitive ability tests, and personality assessments, assessment of interests and career development, assessment of environment, and person-environment interaction and human development.
The counselors may opt to apply one assessment technique or he may use a blend. By the utilizing these assessment methods the clients are advised. The success or failure of career counseling may be observed afterwards in counseling outcome. Assessment methodology must be selected on the basis of client’s problem. More or less every counseling client has similar kinds of problems that revolve around suitability of job to his or her personality. Personality is a combination of all traits, experiences, appearance and social assessment about clients’ personality.
The personality assessment tests along with assessment of interests and cognitive ability test would be the most effective and appropriate blend for assessing an individual’s personality. Its aim is to let individual know who am I? The counselors assume that there is a difference between the qualities of a person and measuring required qualities through different tests would enable them to tell the client their abilities, qualities and the professional career that is suitable for him. Using scientific methods, the qualitative aspects of human personality are measured.
