Political violence generally erupt when socio economic inequality is in raise. (Zimmermann, Ekkert, 1980 ) Oppression can be defined as any situation in which one objectively exploits other. Obstructing one’s pursuit of self affirmation as a responsible person can also be classified under this. (Freire, P, 1993). Discrimination (Freire, 1993, p 37) and/or the unequal distribution of power, status, authority, resources and/or opportunities are the main roots of oppression. Frieire’s fear over oppression that its reality absorbed those within it and those who wished for liberation from such practice is not still allayed.
As Thompson pointed out, any attempt to intervene the system in a pious and virtuous motto either adds to oppression or moves very little and gets faded out at a stage where the oppressive practice is just condoned. (Thompson, N, 2001) Anti oppressive practice is technically a soft way to handle oppressive practice. The sociological understanding of oppression is still to go deep.
