My inspiration for choosing the area of social work as my career is not related to the technological success story of Bill Gates but for his decision to give up his wealth for the cause of poor, especially for their basic needs like food, water, sanitation and hygiene.

It is shocking to know that billions are hungry and for many tomorrow’s bread is not assured from today’s labor. Bill Gates alone cannot solve the problems of the world —he knows it and we all should know it and we need to take up responsibilities to the best of our ability and judgment. The life of one person at a time must be changed. Social service and philanthropic activities would be the goals of my life. I know I am the part of this materialistic civilization, yet I decide to define my area of operation that will give me peace and happiness.

I often remember the wise saying, ‘devotion to the people is devotion to the Supreme Self.’ If riches alone were the criterion for happiness, Bill Gates should have been the happiest person in the world. But he discovered his happiness in donating his riches and remaining engaged in social work. For achieving the desired objective one must have the strong passion for the same. This is my starting point to choose USC Master of Social Work. Master’s Degree shall be the suffix after my name when I complete the course.

But as an individual I shall always remain the dedicated and humble social worker. I will shun all low tendencies within and without me
