Developing your Evaluation Design and Methods Introduction Criminal justice intervention deals with upholding of social control and sanctions to those who break the law by giving criminal penalties and providing rehabilitation. There is mitigation of crime in criminal justice. It also deals with the protection of individuals from abuse of prosecution powers and investigatory (Larry, 2008). The intervention itself is criminal justice intervention; due to its broad definition the aspect that is under consideration is domestic violence. This is because it is a crime that lies under the criminal justice in most countries. For the rest of the paper, there will be a consideration of domestic violence in depth. This includes the evaluation of the question, assessing the crime, its occurrence in society, the places highly prone to the domestic violence, ways to deal with the crime, the effects of domestic violence and a conclusion (James, 2006). Research questions What is the relation between domestic violence and criminal justice? What are the causes of domestic violence? Who are most prone to domestic violence? What are the effects of domestic violence? How to stop domestic violence? Abstract Domestic violence is a crime under the law. The government has led many reforms relating to domestic violence over years. It mostly involves brutalisation of women and children. There have been demands by human rights bodies to criminalise domestic violence though it has been futile. There has been the critic from researchers and victim advocates concerning domestic violence and the way it is considered in the modern society (Larry, 2008). Evaluation site Considering women and children, the evaluation of domestic violence can be done. The individuals under study are mostly at homes and schools. Areas prone to domestic violence include the sub-Saharan Africa. This is on the basis that women are considered as of little necessity to the society. The law of these regions does not provide the rights to women. The criminal justice of these regions has the permission from the law to prosecute those that violate women and children. Instead, they ignore such laws claiming that women have no discipline, thus they need some beating. Children, on the other hand, find themselves on the cross fire and thus, they are falling victims of domestic violence. The crime is mostly due to drug and alcohol abuse by men in these regions (Larry, 2008). Evaluation design Considering field research study, research shows that the reason why domestic violence has taken root its is due to the fact that criminal justice agencies do not treat domestic violence as a serious matter. Though there are policies that criminalise domestic violence the charge and rate of conviction are low. There is no coordination of cases, especially relating to domestic violence, in criminal justice offices (George, 2007). Research further shows that fifty five percent of the cases of women who were victims of domestic violence did not go through because they were uncooperative. Forty percent cases are considerably null and void because there was no evidence (Robert, 2011). According to Australian research institute, fifty one percent who had undergone the ordeal went ahead with the cases, while going through a rough time with the criminal justice department. Twenty six percent had given up the cases, and there was dropping of the cases. This is due to the fear women have and the powerlessness as well as the helplessness of women. The study shows that the highest regions with instances of domestic violence were in Africa. The second continent was Australia with an estimation of five hundred thousand women and children who fall prey of domestic violence (George, 2007). Population and sample In the selection of the population one should consider the people who are there. In the case under study the women and children are under consideration, and this is because they are more vulnerable to domestic violence. The region that has the highest instances of domestic violence is Africa, thus the population to give the sample is women of sub-Saharan Africa. The method of sampling is a random sampling. This is to ensure the number of women is even, because the population is too large to select one by one. There would be a problem in selecting the population because not all women can admit that they are victims of domestic violence. Another problem in collecting the samples is bias of information. In a random selection, there would be better results because the population taken would be even. The systematic sampling, on the contrary, takes only few regions into consideration (Robert, 2011). Data collection methods There would be use of questionnaires because of interviewing of the victims of domestic violence, thus their feedback would need recording. Questionnaires would be efficient for easier carriage and presentation of information. Questionnaires are also efficient, because there are many people to undergo the interview. There will be a lot of the resources in use, thus, questionnaires would minimise the costs of collecting information. Variables to undergo measurement include ex post facto variable which would help in the elaboration of the information. Natural group variables would be helpful in determining to ensure the information is universal, thus increasing their authenticity. Variables that have not undergone manipulation would be necessary to ensure that the information had no bias or interference from other parties. There would be measurement of subject variables to ensure that the information is even. There is the measurement of variables by collecting the total population and using it in terms of the total population. There is multiplication with one hundred to get the percentage population that had been victims of domestic violence. Because the samples are random, independent variables would not find much use (Larry, 2008). Conclusion Criminal justice issues do not just comprise of the cases of domestic violence. I chose domestic violence because it is concerning to most of the society, leading to breaking up of marriages and buttering which may incapacitate the victims.
