Modern Police Training The police force comprises personnel empowered by the government to enforce the law, safeguard people’s property, and ensure order in the society. The police use force and exercise power within defined territorial bounds in the execution of their routine duties. Mainly, the police is concerned with civil policing unlike the military who are involved in defense against aggressors who might enter the country with malicious intentions. In order to meet the world’s future target in terms of security levels and standards of multidisciplinary of the twenty first century, governments should emphasize and invest more in police training. The police department should undergo training that will totally equip them to meet the modern day crime issues like local security threats, natural disasters like flu, and other complicated crises. For their training purposes, the police should have sophisticated training requirements not only in learning but also in infrastructure. Take for instance the Gainesville police agency in Florida, which is composed of the most complex police department in the modern world, has, built sixteen thousand square foot community apartment that has almost met the complex demand requirement of today (Leblanc, 2003). The police force in Gainesville specializes in public safety and is equipped with firearms that have real world capabilities in their scenario hence stimulate the system. The expansion of the law enforcement agency grows in house training and their benefits are bigger. The joint use of training facilities is necessary to meet the current training demands for the law enforcement agency. As per my take, the policing have grown to be more complex, extensive, challenging and intellectually demanding as per the new global dispensation and the increasing changes in the social, economic, and political arenas (Ransley & Mazerolle 2009). The police must switch from being artisans to professionals if at all they would like to respond to the changing and complex nature of policing. In order to witness the expected changes in our globe the police department should have some special attentions of which among them are education and complicated training. After an analytical research, it was clear that educating the police officers was the most effective way to improve their outcomes (Stringer, 2007). Education gives them methodical process of investigation and review of the daily issues. It also helps them in deeper understanding of specific practices, when applicable and assists them in identification and resolving the common as well as complex phenomenon they come across. The common training of police basing on the actual incidents they come across on daily basis is no more interesting nor up to standard. Concerted efforts are put in place to adopt the integral learning curriculum with units that cover conflict resolution, skills of operation, arrest, and application of force, legislation, and public order. Training through education maximizes confidence by minimizing the impact of uncertainty and hesitation and the intellectual application of unarmed techniques using minimal reasoning force (Leblanc, 2003). Learning develops ones physical and technical skills in order for him/her to be an active contributor to an identified team. Most countries have now realized the essence of education in the training of the police. In the United States for instance training through education was introduced by August Vollmer. His aim was to reduce corruption by introducing professionalism. Vollmer introduced strategies of rotating officers place to place in order to reduce corruption rates and improve their performance through non-partisan police force (Cygnus, 2012). The emergence of the so- called professional cops has triggered the demand for professional forces to intensify their knowledge to be in line with the new generation. The police officers should go to schools and get their degree courses on criminology and disciplinary. Terrorism and technological crimes has intensified in the recent past thus the police agencies have to increase their scope of knowledge to deal with these global threats. Out of the tried efforts much and much benefits are being realized from the comprehensive police training especially in the case of Gainesville hence there is a maximum return of investment in the police sector(Cygnus, 2012). In the training, the police should expect a diverse exposure to the current fast growing technological levels. This is because the emergence and diversification of technology has brought many forms of online theft. Police should thus be equipped with computer-based training to handle the indoor gun range stimulators and the space based theft. The training zones should also be equipped with flexible spaces for police to maintain their fitness. Of more essence is a gymnasium, which if made available in all the centers they will place high priority on health and well-being of the soldiers (Sygnus, 2012). Some very essential services should be availed in training centers like rooms for medical facilities to test their fitness and offer them the relevant guidelines and job evaluation offices as well. The training offered to the police should be extensive and cover many fields possible. One of areas that the police must be aware of is the tackling of national disasters and other emerging issues like hurricanes and or disease outbreak. The police should be aware of the basic rules of first aid and survival measures. The police department should undergo-complicated process especially when it comes to rifle training (Cygnus, 2012). The more complicated process a police undergoes the more the rule of high risk and maneuvers for action or situation the better (Moll, 2006). The police should adhere to regular practice of shooting in order to be in line and improve preciseness in rifle training as well reducing their complacency. When an officer enters the training center his or her expectations are that he will perform best thus pressure if mounted on him will ultimately improve his performance. Inducing stress to a person improves his /her performance, although it should be diagnosed because when it reaches a certain level it can be detrimental in performance. Artificial pressure if mounted on to a person is not only healthy but makes the best shooters. Trainers should thus create artificial stresses to an individual for instance by exposing trainees to risky but safe games as long as they are thick skinned. For example, they can go on troop shooting session or parachute fly sessions (Moll, 2006). Despite the normal police trainings of may be physical fitness, martial arts all which enable them to perform various tasks, academies should be established to train the police on how to tackle some tricky incidences. Police, for example will find it very difficult to deal with criminals who are very sly, crafty or organized. In such a situation, the police will be required to show his level of skills and intelligence. Academies, if created will take care of all these; it will educate the police on daily common occurrences and force them to debate on possible solutions. For in order our police department to comply with strategies of twenty first century they must understand the law that governs humanity (Ransley, 2009). In developed countries like the United States, it is a requirement that each police officer must attend law classes for at least one hundred and five hours per week. Through this way, the police officer is in a position to neutralize and alleviate complicated and unfriendly situations without hurting the innocent persons as opposed to their normal pursuit and catching of suspected individuals. Another change, that if assumed will convert the police department into the 21st century status is educating the police on the principles of ethics. This virtue should be endorsed and implemented in the academies. Teaching soldiers on profession ethics will reduces racial profiling on bases of skin color or ethnic background. It brings down lawsuits of police officers so that they may not exercise much power or force on the arrested suspects (Mazrolle, 2009). On my opinion training ethics to police officers is very important because most of the soldiers don’t channel their energy correctly mainly because they feel that authority is on their dispensation hence they can be rude to people. Ethical teaching should be compulsory in all academies and anyone aspiring to be a police must undertake the course. Through these ways we can be sure of the type of police we are releasing to the streets comply to the world`s twenty first century requirement and will bring the expected change in the future generation.
