There is an app for that. If a person wants to know the surf reports from all over the world, keep upon the latest newspaper articles, book a reservation at a hotel, or remotely start one’s vehicle, there are apps that can help an individual do these things. The question that still faces people in modern life is if these applications actually have value, or if they are mere novelties. The question that faces the consumer is if the over-abundance of technology that can be found out there and brought into one’s life is providing too much evolution of technological fluff that has no true value to the life of the consumer.

In creating a paper that discusses the uses of applications and location based services in reference to the development of modern life, the questions that first must be asked is about the actual value that apps provide in allowing for lives that have an increased benefit from their use. In discussing the addition of apps to the technological framework of modern life, the issue of how or if they create benefits to consumers is a valued question in trying to determine if apps will have a lasting existence in the modern world.

Location based services provide the consumer with an interesting and innovative solution to investigation and organization. However, the possibility is that the consumer is only experiencing a perceived benefit, rather than actually fulfilling a true need in their life. Apps are primarily a development from Apple, Inc which was charged with creating a Smartphone that could use the internet in order to increase productivity and time efficiency for the consumer. The Smartphone, however, was first introduced to the public during the 1990s from IBM who produced a phone that could perform several functions, including calculation, a world clock, a calendar, and an address book.
