One article discusses how Borges needs to seen under a different category (i.e. post-colonialism) to gain a whole new range of understanding of his works and its influence to other writers. Another article argues that to gain better understanding of the text, the reader should go beyond the text and reach a level of “wordless understanding with the author.” The remaining two articles state that Borges work is not just a narrative that relates to that Biblical story if the reader considers the paradoxes of the text to the original Biblical tale.

These standpoints, no matter how diverse they may appear, all work together to gain a full and better understanding of “The Gospel According to Mark” and its author. It highlights the point that it is easy to misinterpret Borges work, and it is true if one is not familiar with the Argentine master. These articles are useful because they give the readers a macro view before dissecting the smaller details, thus avoiding misinterpretation of the text. As a side-note, misinterpretation is a major factor that led Baltasar into being crucified by the Gutres.

Aizenberg argues that Borges’ texts had a great influence on post-colonial literary works and criticisms. She states that while Borges’ works are normally categorized under post-modernism, one should not fail to recognize that the post-modern characteristics of his works are not due to mass culture and post-industrialization. She explains the post-colonialism is a tool that can be used to examine works that cannot be perfectly fitted in, for example, post-modernism, just like Borges’ works.

On a personal note, Carmona makes a good point as critics somehow fail to recognize and consider the irregular growth of the society, colonized past, and identity concerns of the region. It is worth noting that the article is useful for those who want to study Borges’ work based on a
