Extract of sample "Logical Fallacy in Thinking"

Here are the main types of logical fallacy.

• Ad Hominem – Instead of logically arguing, this just attacks the person making the claim.
• Appeal to popular opinion – This fallacy bases its claim on what a lot of people think is true. Even though a lot of people think something, it is not necessarily true.
• False Analogy – This makes a comparison between two things that are actually not alike and so is not a logical argument.
• Attacking the motive – This is like ad hominem.
• Red herring – This basically just distracts people and then pretends the premise has been proved later.
• Begging the question – Using the conclusion of an argument as evidence to prove the same conclusion.
• Inconsistency – Only one claim or another can be true.
• Straw Person – Lying about another argument to supposedly disprove it.
• Look Who's Talking – Saying something is not true because the person who said it is a hypocrite.
