Here I was, shy and introverted, plunged into a world full of expression and vivacity. All of a sudden I was submerged into a world where not only could I express myself fluently, but also communicate with others, articulating my feelings and sentiments seamlessly. I still remember the day my art teacher told me how fluid my work was and, what is more, how expressive I was with my brush. Somehow, my raw emotions had been transferred on to the canvass, narrating what I was feeling inside, which I had been too timid to narrate on my own.

My teacher’s praise emboldened me and I decided to practice more and be able to paint as well as I could. Perhaps I wanted to master the art of painting, knowing full well that it was a fool’s dream, yet just the thought of going home to my room and painting something brought a smile to my lips. I spent days on end trying to paint what I wanted to say, however, this is not to say that my painting is a crutch I used. As those who know me well can say, I am not an introvert around those I have formed a close bond with.

As is true with anyone, only people close to me know how I am feeling emotionally, whereas to the world at large I do not show that side to, as, indeed, very few of us do. My talent at art, therefore, is very important to me. Not only does it help convey my emotions to others, it also enables me to dig up my emotions, thus relieving any negative emotions I may be experiencing at the time I am painting. What is more, it has made me appreciate the artistry around me all the more. The beauty of the world, I can say, has revealed itself to me more poignantly than before.

I am more inclined to notice a beautiful sunset now, for example, and be happy in the knowledge that I am living in a world full of beauty, something I would not have experienced had I not been a painter.
