The hospital does not provide any information to the patients about the delivery of their scans and the period of wait. During the long wait, much confusion developed among the patients some patients become worried and others become more optimistic about the condition of their health.

A mess cannot be further divided into simpler components to solve it. However, in the issue that we are dealing with, the problems can be subdivided and further decomposed into simpler components. The property of the mess is that it is unbounded. Hence it does not follow the attributes of a mess and is a difficulty.

The patients suffer because of unavailable information. They make up their judgments resulting from the environment and the hints from their GP. Some patients get too worried and others develop more optimistic thoughts. All the patients agree that receiving information on time will solve many of their difficulties.

Systemic thinking indicates that everything is interrelated and all the events in the world can only be understood if they are seen as a whole. It considers the system to be a mix of interactions and actions and a structured unit with a function. On the other hand, systematic thinking is the belief that things can be better understood if they are broken down into simpler components. Systematic thinking states that if things are studied in isolation, without interdependencies, things become less complex. Once the wholes are broken into smaller, more manageable parts, understanding becomes pretty much possible. Whereas systemic thinking argues that if wholes are broken down, the understanding of the whole is not possible anymore because of the absence of interrelation.

The focus of systemic thinking is more on the linkages and the interactions among the elements of a system. By taking a holistic view of the entire system, the system can be understood and the problems can be addressed. The focus of systematic thinking is on the individual parts rather than the whole or interactions of the parts. Each part is isolated from the environment of the system to be studied. Some function of response is necessary for systemic thinking so that the system can run properly.

Instead of driving the car at a high speed to reach the office on time, if I leave early for the office, wake up early, have breakfast in a hurry, take the shortest path to the office, and set alarms for more than one clock, then the boundary of the systems are increased. Instead of improving on one particular factor, all the possible interactions are addressed and the system is improved. This was an instance of systemic thinking. A situation in which systematic thinking is involved is when you are determined to improve your selling skills as a salesperson. Instead of improving the skill generally, you concentrate on your speaking skill. In the same situation, if the salesperson improved the whole selling skill with the help of a series of improvements, then also this will be a situation involving systematic thinking. This is because the components are separately improved step by step. The components are removed from the environment and the relationships are ignored while improving them separately.
