Diversity is largely being appreciated by organizations as a result of the realization that a diverse workforce brings in new talents and the possibility of inventiveness through sharing of a wide-range of knowledge and experience (Adler, 2002). Strong human resources management practices come in handy especially in the international context whereby a company deals with an extremely large workforce.

For example, Starbucks which is a U.S. based multinational company operates globally through foreign company stores and subsidiaries, and employs more than 75,000 employees globally (Shultz, 2008). The most commonly used techniques include training regarding the host country’s profile, which enables a manager to familiarize with the aspects of the country that influence the actions of the people that the manager will be dealing with.

Learning about the company’s profile also helps in understanding its proximity to other important economies. Training on the major language of the host country is also commonly undertaken.
