An Evaluation of the Web Site allnurses.com Evaluation of a web site takes a lot of things to consider. Its over-all layout is one thing. But its web content is a different story. I have chosen the web site allnurses.com. With its tagline “Where Nurses Come Together”, I already thought of it as a forum site for nurses. Reaching its homepage, I’ve found out that I was right. The text in the web site states that it is an online community for nurses. However, the web site looks like an online directory to me.

I even thought that it is an advertising site. Its layout seems one that wasn’t thought of carefully. It is text-heavy. There are no images present that would say that it is a site related to nursing. In creating web site, I believe that there should be balance between images and text. Another thing that I noticed is that almost all texts are linked. Looking at its web address, the web site is not a scholarly one. The site serves as the venue for the business interests of the owners. When it comes to web content evaluation, there are three things to consider: its intention or purpose, its relevance, and its credibility or reliability (“Criteria for Web Site Evaluation”).

The web site allnurses.com does not have a particular author since the administration of the site is composed of a number of nurses. Another bad thing is that the staff did not provide their complete names. Also, most of them do not have credentials to show. As the name of the web site suggests, I believe that its purpose is for the nurses to express thoughts and ask and answer questions. However, visiting the web site could give you a lot of information about nursing. It has sections for forums, news, articles, opportunities, and other stuffs that would make the web site viewer think hard what the site is all about.

An effective web site should clearly tell the viewer the intention of creating it. Even so, it is good that the web site administration sees to it that the site is updated. The articles posted are recent and can be useful for the members of the site. Works CitedCriteria for Web Site Evaluation. 4 Sept. 2003. The Regents of the University of Michigan. 21 Nov. 2008 .
