The Holy Family was painted during 1527 to 1528 and is believed to be one of the early paintings by the artist. All through his works based from Florence, enjoying the pride of being the court painter for the Duke of Tuscany, he proved his excellence in portraiture and religious works. The Holy Family belonged to the Mannerism movement of art and has preached the art style in its early years of development. Well belonging to the characteristics of the art movement, this work also rejected the balance of the Renaissance period as it reflected a more emotional and distorted point of view.

The work could attract me more than any works in the exhibition. The darkness of the background proved to be a factor differentiating it with other works exhibited. The background when blended with the strangeness of the outlook which is a unique differential factor of the mannerism art movement made sure that it won’t miss the attention of the viewer. In totality the painting appeared to me as a pretty one paying justice to the artistic value and serving the viewer’s expectation at the fullest.

The title of the work ‘The Holy Family’ well goes with the concept that the picture depicts. Considering the straight forward revelation of the divine approach of the art work, no alternates may fit into the aptness of the current title. The effort of the artist to convey the focused subject and the depth of the characters in the subjects are effectively extended to the viewer. The feeling carried by the viewer from the title well matches with what the picture tries to say. The painting depicts a biblical subject featuring the holy family.

Five different characters are portrayed in the painting with distinguished artistic features. The figures are positioned in imaginative and complex poses which symbolizes the sacred feeling of the image. The figures are distinctive from
