I consider myself a well-balanced, mature person with the ability to identify the career that best suits me and the determination to pursue it in allpossible ways. My ambition to become a Dentist took roots after a memorable visit to one of my family friends, who is a Dentist, in California. After a couple of visits to her office and watching her professionalism, it dawned on me that my general liking to the medical profession has to be narrowed down to dentistry. I was convinced that it was a rewarding and dynamic career, complete with the opportunity to interact with patients from all walks of life and to deal with various kinds of treatment and surgery that calls for a high level of professional knowledge and skill.
Since then, I have been trying my best to channelize my education towards my dream career. My undergraduate years prepared me for the personality development that I believe would turn out to be helpful to succeed in any career. However, I made it a point to do my Masters at UMDNJ (my top choice for dental school) so as to improve my science GPA. I will graduate this May in Biomedical Sciences, with a lot of improvement in my academic performance and interpersonal and communicative skills.
To make my wish to be a Dentist, I have been attending classes on oral biology and oral microbiology, dental seminars, dental biomaterials, and a NJDS dental school course which is still in progress (dental biochemistry). I have shadowed two more Dentists, which has in fact strengthened my ambition. At present, I am volunteering at a dental clinic. I believe that a genuine interest in the arts makes one a sensitive and caring person. Keeping this in mind, I have been practicing piano for eight years, which I am sure have improved my manual dexterity and eye-hand co-ordination.
I believe these are very significant in a dentist’s career. Moreover, I relate the fulfillment of an artistic creation to a job well done in one’s chosen profession. I hope to make use of the discipline and sincerity required in playing piano to the best of my future professional requirements. I look forward to helping many people with dental problems in the future, with the highest of my abilities and dedication. I have tried to the best of my abilities to observe life around me and to learn from the experiences of myself and others.
I am proud to define myself as a focused, cultured, and accepting individual determined to succeed in life. Since I have found the best career option for me, I am determined to work hard to achieve my goal. I am convinced that no other career could fulfill my desire to gain scientific knowledge and to help others as well as dentistry will. Today, I feel ready to continue my journey into the medical field and to prepare myself for the privilege of helping people maintain their personal health while increasing their self-esteem and confidence.
I am confident that I will be able to pursue my dream career with utmost involvement if I am given a chance to enroll in the Dentistry course. My individual ambition, aptitude and educational background make it clear that I am capable of performing well in the area of study that I have chosen. Moreover, I am determined to give original contributions to the fields of my academic interests by being a diligent and competent student.
