8A. The material on interpersonal behavior goal suggests that the communication behavior of effectively confronting people of their mistakeswithout causing them to be offended was the appropriate target for change since the interpersonal behaviors to achieve the goal will also affect other communication behavior problems previously stated in the list of “I can’t” communication behaviors. As a proof and to be specific that the chosen communication behavior is an appropriate target, an account from the course material on interpersonal behavior goal states that behaviors such as telling others about their mistakes in the most appropriate time or situation, takes time to observe people to determine their behavior and attitude before confronting them with their mistakes and carefully analyzing the situation before confronting the person will not only improve the communication skill of confronting people of their mistakes but also other communication skills such as refusing or saying no to people properly without offending them. Furthermore, speaking to other people in the best way and most appropriate way in accordance to a person’s attitude or character will also help in the communication behavior of coming across as sarcastic to other people during conversations because a person will be aware of the tone and words to use for various kinds of people he or she will converse with. Lastly, the behavior of relating and befriending people will encompass on improving all of the communications skills because a person will learn how to deal with other people better and to converse with them when they befriend and be able to relate to these people. 8B. The instance that particularly pleased me was when a friend from our neighborhood borrowed a book which was an entry in the journal dated February 11, 2008. The course material on interpersonal behavior goal suggests that this communication behavior indicates a positive change because the goal stated was achieved that is not to offend a person when confronting the person of his or her mistake at the appropriate time and the most suitable manner of telling them. In the same course material, the interpersonal behavior stating that: “I will learn how to speak to other people about their mistakes in the best way and most appropriate way in accordance to their attitude or character. This way I will not cause them to be offended or get angry when I tell them their mistakes.” was performed effectively thus suggesting that the new communication behavior indicates a positive change. 8C. In Part 7, I was dissatisfied on my approach to improve my interpersonal communication on the instances that happened on February 13, 2008 and February 23, 2008. On these instances, an impulsive confrontation was performed which the course material on interpersonal behavior goal suggests that the communication behavior performed was less than ideal since the new behaviors listed in the interpersonal behavior goal course material were not performed as needed. The new behaviors that were not performed states that: 1) I would not always confront others immediately after they made a mistake instead I will tell others about their mistakes in the most appropriate time or situation. This will give time for me to think of the approach I will use on the person and to give time for the person to think over what he or she has done wrong; 2) In dealing with new acquaintances or other people I don’t know well, I will take time to observe them to determine their behavior and attitude before confronting them with their mistakes. Learning how they react and interact will give me an idea on how to tell them their mistakes in the most suitable way that will not offend them; 3) For people that are older than me and whom I don’t know well, I will try my best to relate and befriend these people to easily tell them about their mistakes. Befriending these people will cause them to value my opinion and not treat me as a critic nor an enemy but a friend who cares and wants them to improve; 4) Instead of an impulsive confrontation and to avoid unnecessary arguments, I will carefully analyze the situation before confronting the person who made a mistake. 8D. I would like to change the communication behavior performed on February 13, 2008 and February 23, 2008. To achieve this change, I would abide by the interpersonal behaviors listed on the course material on interpersonal behavior goal. The said interpersonal behaviors would enhance and make a great change on the communication outcome because taking time to get to know the characteristics of the people involved, befriending them and avoiding the unnecessary and impulsive confrontation will yield a much different result which is a successful and effective performance of the new communication behavior of confronting people without causing them to be offended. 8E. My interpersonal relationships have noticeable changes as a result of this project because most of the “I can’t” behaviors listed in the first course material had been changed as evident in the entries in the journal for part 7 of the entire course project. As manifested in the journal, there were noticeable positive changes on the “I can’t” behaviors such as the “I can’t say right away when I don’t like to do something” behavior; the “I can’t speak in front of other people” and the “I can’t confront people when they make mistakes” behavior. The “I can’t” behaviors have been performed successfully because the goal and behaviors stated in the course material on interpersonal behavior goal was employed appropriately and effectively. On the other hand, a negative change in relationship is evident on the February 23, 2008 entry of the part 7 of the course project wherein the guy classmate was offended by the confrontation. The behavior listed in the course material on interpersonal behavior goal which is to carefully analyze the situation before confronting the person which was further explained as instead of having an impulsive confrontation and to avoid unnecessary arguments, I will carefully analyze the situation before confronting the person who made a mistake. This was not carried out therefore resulting in a negative effect on the relationship with the guy classmate. Read More
