Although same-sex schools have the advantage over co-ed schools in terms of academic excellence. Its disadvantages outweigh those advantages. For example in female same-sex schools, females don not have to struggle with their gender identities and thus can concentrate on their schooling. Girls no longer have to ask; "is my hair ok How does my makeup look Am I going to look like a geek if I answer another question Do I have to play sports to impress the girls" (Fidelman) In contrast, adolescents in co-ed schools are always flooded with these issues on their mind instead of concentrating on their academic lessons which should be the most essential task (Fidelman).
However, the disadvantages of same-sex schools are far more plenty than its advantages. Schools should be a training ground to enable the students to be ready for the real world. In the real world, not only female dominate the world. In same-sex schools, emphasis is usually on female role model. The students' role models for best teachers are female, their role models for best athletes are female and the list goes on. Furthermore, single sex education is inconsistent with the goals of this nation's public school system to develop an educated population able to transcend barriers of race and gender in society" (Single sex education is an unwise policy).

One of the biggest fight in America, is the fight for equality. In the fifties and sixties, black Americans fought for equal rights, and this was one of the longest and most publicized fight since the abolishment of slavery. Today there is a new, tempestuous issue on the horizon— the legalizing same sex marriage.
The discussion in this paper shows that the various norms for parenting all adhere to a heterosexual family arrangement. Teachers find it difficult to instruct children about same-sex parenting because it does not adhere to their own view of what a family should be. Moreover, it has been discovered that there is threat to a child’s health and security because of the gender orientation of his or her parents.
The idea of same sex marriage affects wide areas such as domestic affairs, employee benefits, and government allowance and inheritance rights. Lately, the argument of same sex marriage has grown up to a global issue which does not have an amicable solution.
While some are convinced that sex education should be part of the school’s curriculum and students should be taught sex education in the same way that they receive instructions on other subjects, others feel that such a responsibility is best left to the parents.
The single-sex schools that existed at the time were allowed to continue. Several courses such as human sexuality and contact sports were permitted to continue being single sex. There had been numerous efforts in the 1990s to enact legislation that would allow single-sex schools.
According to the paper sex segregation in secondary schools is detrimental to students and teachers in a number of ways. One is that segregating high school on the basis of sex sets idealistic societal environments. Same gender classrooms produce societal environments, which do not reveal the emblematic social experience. A single gender classroom does not give students the chance to know the opposite sex, as well as how they work and react.
If attending a single sex school during puberty, sexual confusion or gender role confusion might be possible. Another social issue is segregation can never be equal. In the end, the social problems of single sex schools could outweigh the educational benefits.
The environment of an individual is the single most important factor in deciding the ethical values while defining and explaining the concept of sex education in a public school environment.
