Although cloning has some advantages, a lot of ethical issues have erupted resulting to major debates on the viability of this biotechnology. There are a lot of unanswered questions which until a time when more and more laboratory tests will prove safe to carry on, should be shelved and not gambled with at the risk of human beings. In other words cloning is a field characterized by diverse implications and uncertain results. Although proponents of cloning have praised it for the ability to repairs the nervous system, cloning has been found to causes irreparable nervous injuries the moment it back fires meaning that, it may complicate the burden of disease it purports to resolve. As much as there are advantages of taking care of the nervous system injuries, due to the production of the same types of cells with no change in genome, incase of future attacks of pathogens on the cells the cells may not survive as is intended. Consequently this is not yet fully researched and using human beings as objects of laboratory tests is ethically wrong and against the code of scientific studies (Gurdon, & Colman, 61). Also cloning has been found to increase the risk of somatic cells mutations, which may even trigger the growth of malignant cells making the situation even worse. This may be caused by the side effects of medications used in and after the process of cloning. The process of cloning as it pertains to this issue has not yet been authenticated. In addition, the new homogenous cells have been found to be easily affected by diverse climatic changes and have less resistance to pathogens (Gurdon, & Colman, 103). New cells that are similar may not be able to fight pathological attacks in case of diverse environmental changes (Gurdon, & Colman, 42). Scientists on the hand are not sure of the implications of this kind of treatment on patients. Medication used during invalid and convalescing stages may cause cells mutations (Rifkin, 90). As much as cloning may be the only option to saving the life of a patient, the implications are worse because of implications. With cloning to repair nervous system injuries even the scientists can not predict for how long the cells will keep working. The viability of the process has enough flaws and needs to be investigated more and more and verified. If a conclusion is made that cloning will reverse the aging process and hence reduce the burden of disease, this will just be a speculation. The human cells are unique in there own way and cloning of somatic cells to reverse old age process and diseases may have adverse negative implications that may trigger some mutations. With the reversing of the aging process, there may arise negative effects of the anti aging processes. Consequently there is bound to be socio-cultural issues such as how the society is likely to treat the clones. As a clone, one is likely to be treated differently by the other population because they have lost originality and identity. In addition, the somatic cells may develop complications, which may lead or accelerate the aging process and cause diseases like emphysema (Rifkin, 32). Although cloning has been considered as a breakthrough in the scientific world concerns about medical risks, improper imprinting and somatic cells mutation have certainly not been fully addressed, (Best, Steven & Kellner, 51). From the biological field of genetics it is apparent that, for human and animals to grow there is supposed to be the presence of heterogeneity of cells (Gurdon, & Colman, 12). Inclusion of genetic materials into the stem cell may bring about somatic mutations, which may produce abnormal growth of cell and bring complications in future. A good example is when cloning is done to change one's skin and the long term effects of cloning like genetic mutations end up causing skin conditions which may be malignant (Hyde, Margaret, Hyde, Lawrence, 98). The fact that, cloning may hold the solution to miscarriage is a good attempt by scientists to bring hope to mothers with conditions, which cannot allow full term pregnancies. The implication is still not known and using humans as laboratory tests could cause the death of many human cells. There is also a potential risk of cell mutations, which may make the situations more complicated. There could also be instances of improper printing, which may have adverse cell mutations and cause diseases like cystic fibroses (Hyde, Margaret, Hyde, Lawrence, 47). In addition, further research into this field, would require that human beings (women) are used as specimens for the scientists to discover this. This is just not ethically right but it is a crime against humanity. Genetic heterogeneity ensures that species develop to beat all odds. Having the same type of cells posses a big threat to the survival of all human and animal species in future because in case of pathological catastrophe, all these species are bound to extinct. Imbalance of hormones in instances of reproduction of humans and animals may produce strains on the future offspring produced by the original clones. Overall, it appears prudent to post pone the idea of cloning to such a time when the major concerns will be addressed and there will be an assurance that, it is safe to clone.
