Download file to see previous pages Because gambling is legalized in many countries, the number of people engaging in these activities has increased. For all gamblers, there is the desire to make profits out of this activity, and this requires that they have a higher chance of that event occurring. One of the common card games people engage in today is poker. It is played with a deck of fifty-two cards. The ranks of a player’s cards and the combinations of these cards help determine the winner. In order to win big, players risk larger sums of money, hoping that they do not lose. Therefore, poker, just like any other gambling activity, is purely based on chance. In mathematics, one of the widely covered topics is a probability, which is the study of the likelihood of an event occurring. For this reason, poker is directly related to this mathematical concept because outcomes are based on chance. Although most people question the importance of studying mathematics in school, the application of mathematical concepts in the real world is varied. Probability, which is a branch of mathematics, is one of the most used concepts in the world. This research aims at demonstrating how probability is used in gambling by focusing on the game of poker. First, this paper will offer an overview of how poker layers approach the game without the use of probability. This approach will be contrasted to that taken by mathematicians. Secondly, this research will highlight how mathematicians apply probability in a game of poker. Given that poker, like most other gambling activities, is based on chance, the application of probability theory in the game of poker is important in estimating the outcomes of the game.
The approach taken by most poker players is based on their experiences, with less focus on mathematics and probability. For most poker players, there is the belief in experience, skill, and luck.  ...Download file to see next pagesRead More

### Probability Concepts and Applications

... Here Here Here Here Probability Concepts and Applications Question Responses At various times, virtually all businesses (and other institutions) require the collection and evaluation of data regarding their endeavors. The mathematical analysis of such information can provide valuable guidance for future organizational decisions. However, all forms of data collection include the issue of sampling error. The sampling error problem occurs as a result of the ability to sample every member of a given population. Sampling error is a representation of the influence of chance or probability upon the data. Specifically, it is associated with the probability of the measured event occurring for the collection of possible reasons other than those...

Thus, P(-1.01probability that Z is between -1 to +1 is 68.26% because P (-1Probability Associated with the Area (from http://esminfo.prenhall.com/samplechps/larson/pdfs/ch05.pdf) The applications of the Z-statistics are many. We can use the standard normal curve or the Z-statistics for many types of inferences in statistics. For example, Figure 3 shows that the area from negative infinity to Z=1.40 is 0.9192 corresponding to 91.92% probability. The area under the normal curve to Z=1.45...

..., 2010). This is especially important in todays day and age when graphic illustrations can be designed automatically by computer software to a level of accuracy that would have been unheard of even 20 years ago. In addition to this, other authors, including James and Nicholas Bernoulli, Pierre Rémond de Montmort, and Abraham De Moivre calculated the various odds in complicated games, developed a powerful, strong and reliable mathematical tool which was termed the theory of probability. Lately, in the seventeenth century around 1778, Daniel Bernoulli added to the findings and the scope of application regarding the concept of probability. He devised a principle that was concerned with the product of the probabilities that were associated...

Given: P(A) = 6/7, P(B) = 7/8, P(D) = 9/10, and Machine efficiency = 27/44 P(C) = unknown All four components need to be in working order for the machine to complete the process successfully. The machine will fail to complete the process from start to finish if at least one of the tasks fails. The efficiency of the machine is the probability that the machine completes the process from start to finish. Further, all tasks (from A to D) are independent tasks Therefore, Therefore, the probability that component C is in working condition is The probability that component C is in working condition is 10/11 (or 90.91%). ii. If the firm operating the machine wishes...

### Probability

...Probability Probability defines an event’s chance of occurrence and may be theoretical or experimental. While theoretical probability relies on naturally expected observations, experimental probability is derived from experimental observations. This report seeks to investigate probabilities in genetics and inheritance. The paper concludes that theoretical probability sufficiently predicts inheritance of genes. Introduction Olofsson explains that the knowledge of probability is fundamental in understanding inheritance of genes (p. 56). This is because characteristics of parents that are passed over to their offspring follow specific patterns. Both parents have pairs of chromosomes out of which one is transferred to an offspring at random...

This variable is leading consumers to curtail their spending; as a result of this consumers are demanding more value at low price. For companies this has become a challenging situation because the cost of product development does not permit giving out the finished products at a reduced price (Shah and Haigh, 2005). Rivalry amongst competitors: This dimension falls on the higher end of the spectrum. The market of video game consoles consist of companies which have strong capital base to support their operations and most importantly they have a competitive product offering...

In doing so, not only will these illegal activities be put to an end, moreover, the government shall be benefiting from the decline in crimes prone to home run poker games such as underage and problem gamblers which shall be taken care of by the provision of online poker as it aims to provide a more secure setting for gambling and consequential feuds, vendettas and other illegitimate participatory...

### The Introduction to Probability

Probability Probability defines the likelihood of an occurrence and is expressed as a comparative of a base line. It is normally expressed as a percentage or as a fraction but can take assume different reference bases. This paper explains mortality rates, as reported by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, as an example of probability.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s report of a decline in mortality rate, from “747.0 deaths per 100000 populations in 2010 to 740.6 deaths per 100000 populations,” is an example of probability, a comparative probability. The first section of the compound probability means that for every 100000 people in the target society, 747 died and the statement means that in the y...

### The Understanding of Probability

.... What differentiates each article from the other is the actual field or application in which probability theory was administered. The first two articles talk about probability and its concept in baseball game. The third article talks about probability theory and its concept in business with respect to predicting future sales. The last article at some point may not be far from the third article in terms of its application of probability in the field of business. However, what differentiates it from the third article is its level of understanding in the other subjects of major concern just prior to obtaining concrete information and eventually an output model. It can also be noted that the style of application of probability theory may vary...
