Project 3 :Caffeine Intake This paper will talk in detail about my caffeine consumption in a day (in the form of coffee and Coca Cola), its timings and the amount of total caffeine consumed and decayed during a day.My first caffeine consumption is in the form of coffee at 8 am in the morning when I have my breakfast. That is usually 1.5 cups of coffee, keeping in mind the usual cup I have it in is very huge. The approximate amount of caffeine in the cup is 150 mg. Since the average half-life of caffeine is 4.

75 hours, the amount of caffeine in my body at 12:45 pm is 75 mg. 4.75 hours is equal to 4 hours and 45 minutes. At 12:45, I have a bottle of Coca Cola with my lunch, which approximately contains 70 mg of caffeine. The total caffeine in my body after that is 145 mg after lunch. At 5: 30 pm, the caffeine content in my body reduces to half of the quantity, which would be 72.5 mg. At 6: 30 pm, I consume my evening cup of coffee from the school cafeteria, containing around 100 mg of caffeine which then totals to 172.

5 mg in my body. This content will reach its half-life at 11: 15 pm at night, when the total caffeine in my body would be 86.25. This is my caffeine consumption in the form of coffee and Coca Cola in one day. After my first drink at 8 in the morning, 50% of the intake is metabolized after4 hours and 45 minutes, at 12: 45 pm. If one only keeps this intake in mind, which is 150 mg, 75% of it is metabolized in another 2 hours and 22 minutes, which is at 3: 07 pm. With the same rate of average half-life, 99.

5% of the first caffeine intake of the day is metabolized at around 5: 30 pm in the evening. Caffeine is the most popular beverage content for young adults and teenagers, since it comes in the form of a lot of drinks such as coffee, fizzy drinks, tea, energy drinks etc. Our body absorbs and distributes caffeine content very quickly, therefore it can spread to all our body cells, even to the brain and other organs. It is a drug that contains many side effects and its risky if consumed in higher amounts. 1. Excessive caffeine intake can contribute to dehydration, especially when it is taken with lower amounts of other liquids.

During hot weather, our body loses more water in the form of sweat, especially during the day. Regular coffee addicts and users face dehydration problems, which can result in nausea in the long run. This is a very common impact of high caffeine intake and can even affect our taste buds. 2. Many health institutions also state that too much caffeine intake can cause restlessness, anxiety and irritability for many individuals. Caffeine intoxication can result in major sleeping disorders and disturbances in sleep, along with depression.

Alertness may increase in the short run, but too much intake can lead to headaches and fatigues.3. Caffeine consumption may also increase blood pressure for older people, especially men. It blocks some hormones that keeps our arteries widened, causing high blood pressure for some. This also releases adrenaline that creates hypertension and anxiety.
