Employability Skills acquired Employability skills achieved In the world of employment, employers seek the most competent employee to take charge in any available chance. Employers analyze what they need to ensure they employ the best. Employees need to have the techniques that can propel a company or an institution towards the set goals and objectives. To achieve employers’ targets employees must ensure they comply with the set guidelines and must employ personal skills to provide reputable results (Orner, 2009). Many employability skills require learning, but a good number of these skills develop through self-initiatives and creativity. The use of these skills ensures smooth learning of duties allocated. Most employment provides result-based chances that require employees to provide results as they expected or even better (Knightz & Yorke, 2003). Through class work and self-motivated effort, I have been able to set my own goals towards of what is required in the employment field. Most of the techniques that I have acquired are through class-work and interaction with those in the working sector. I have made a remarkable progress in accessing the skills that range from effective communication to being a good team player. In every employment, employees need to be self-managed. Self-management not only contributes to the satisfaction and growth of oneself, but also contributes to the smooth flow of chores in a work setting (Orner, 2009). I have learnt that, in everything one does there must be set personal goals and visions. Employers have their goals and employees should have theirs too. It is also necessary, to evaluate the personal way of performance and the spirit of the work. I have realized that one needs to have the knowledge and confidence in own visions and ideas. This creates the necessity for articulating the ideas and visions to maximize the results. Responsibility requires accountability. In every employment, the main goal entails the responsibility of the employees. Every employee must be accountable of own deeds and results. So far, I have taken the responsibility of my own finances, budgets, and schoolwork. Through self-efforts, I can now comfortably cope with change, manage my temper and my level of confidence. In every place and every activity, problems exist. The ability to solve these problems contributes to productive results. Through self-assessment, I can comfortably solve different problems through own and learnt problem solving techniques. To solve the problem, it requires creativity, innovativeness, and provision of practical solutions. According to Knightz & Yorke (2003), one should show independence and the initiative in the identification of problems and find an amicable way to solve the problems. Problems can occur at personal level or in a time, applying different strategies of problem solving ensures generation of solutions before situations turn to the worst (Hind & Moss, 2005). In a class setting, I am able to weigh my skills through testing assumptions and taking account of context data and different circumstances. There is also a need to work with others, contribute ideas, and support in achieving results in team projects. I can confidently support that the main step towards problem solving is the identification of a problem. Many say that failing to plan it is planning to fail. The notion I can confidently support. Planning and organization form the base from long and short term strategic planning. In a personal setting or in an employment, it is necessary to manage time and point out different priorities (Andrews & Russell, 2012). These can be achievable through setting timelines, coordination of tasks for others and self. I have learnt that it is important to take the initiative of making decisions and adoption of resource allocation to cope with various contingencies. Orner (2009) argues that, to achieve the required results in planning, it is necessary to develop visionary and proactive plan that weighs up several risks involved, evaluation of alternatives and application of evaluation criteria. It is clear that to achieve the best results one must be resourceful in planning. One must be able to collect, analyze and organize information in order to get the best results. Through own skills and those learnt I am able to plan, keep a diary, organize events, and offer suggestions in planning even at home. Unity is strength. A well-developed system of team contributes to productive working relationships and conspicuous outcomes. To perfect in team playing, one must also portray a personal efforts (Andrews & Russell, 2012). I have learnt that, to realize the best results in a team one must identify the strengths of team members. I have also realized that I can work well with people of different genders, religion, age, disabilities, and political affiliations. In school groups, I have learnt that every group member should have own roles for effective progress of the group. This move gives an individual approach on a certain role thus creativity enhancement. In employments, I have realized that teamwork is essential in crisis and problem solving. It is through effective communication that companies achieve productive and harmonious relations across the employees and customers. Communication pivots every aspect of day-to-day lives (Andrews & Russell, 2012). To communicate effectively, I realized that, one must listen to others and understand what they want and their needs. A person should also possess good speaking, writing and responsive negotiation power. In order to serve other people’s requirements one must also be able to establish networks and be in a position to share information in a formal way (Orner, 2009). To be a good communicator, I can confident say that one must be assertive and must be able to clearly emphasize and persuade others on the issue. I take myself as a good communicator. In school and at home people come to me for information, I listen, discuss issues with them, and clearly follow instructions whenever they exist. Without any conflict, I now confidently speak clearly in phone and when giving instructions. To be complete in communicating one must also possess good writing and reading skills. I now can write emails, take notes, reports and letters skills that contribute to the employability. Every employer looks on the employee’s ability to be initiative and enterprising. Initiative and enterprising ability contribute to innovative outcomes. One must be able to adapt to new situations and environments every time changes occur in life. Initiative calls for creativity. To be a good leader one must be initiative in every encounter (Knightz & Yorke, 2003). Leaders lead by example. Thus, as a leader there is a need to set own and team benchmark. One must be able to develop various strategies, and hold long-term vision in an enterprising life. To depict the best initiative skills one must be in a position to translate ideas in actions and generate a variety of options in cause a problem arises. It also should involve identifying opportunities that are not obvious to others. Through class work and encounters at home, I feel to have developed initiatively, I can comfortably develop innovative solutions within the family and in teams, I work with. I must admit that, I do encounter some challenges while trying to develop solutions to situations that require appropriate experience to tackle. The world is moving so fast technology wise and so should we. Employers seek to employ employees who can reliably use technology to deliver in their respective areas of allocation (Hind & Moss, 2005). A requirement that signify that, employees must possess a range of basic IT skills and be able to apply IT as a management tool. Employees must also have the OHS knowledge to apply technology and in the relevant physical capacity (Andrews & Russell, 2012). Through class work and personal efforts, I have acquired several basic IT skills that entail employability. Currently, I can use a computer to organize data, send and receive emails, write documents and to find information on the internet. I am also able to use other technologies such as text messaging and use of Skype. Learning is a process that continues over a lifetime. Thus, to consider oneself employable there is a need to manage own learning. There is a need to be enthusiastic and be willing to learn in any setting, either on or off the job (Knightz & Yorke, 2003). I have learnt that one must be open to new ideas and techniques and one must be prepared to invest effort and time to learn new skills. Through research on the internet, listening, and sharing with friends, I have realized the world is full of information that is necessary for one’s knowledge. It is clear that employers will look at that person who can learn as time and modes in work change. Appendix Blogs Make your CV stand out Do you have a CV? How up-to-date and to what extent is it engaging? The CV is a fundamental tool in the job application. The ability to make an inviting and eye catching CV is both an art and a science. A skill that makes an applicant to instantly stand out to an employer and can open doors to new opportunities. There are so many job applicants for very few jobs. In such scene, many do not understand or even do not know how start writing their CV. To design the best CV communication skills are necessary. A good CV must communicate to the employer the qualities that one possesses. Always act in a professional way even in the internet Social media platforms ranging from Facebook, MySpace, Twitter, and other networks provides suitable zone for interactions. People join and post contents in them. In common scenes, it may be hard to keep these platforms free from candid images and posts. These posts can at some time haunt and there is a need to avoid such issues with the internet. Social media offer great opportunity words, videos, and images that may not be always suitable. Funny pictures of a pet, recent charity work or group meeting may be of weight. Generally, there is no wrongdoing in being social. Pictures of a night out parties and obscene tweets may not give a great impression. As an eligible employee one need to be professional even in social media. One can share ideas, comment on news in the interested fields, and portray positive arguments. The ability to use IT is a requirement in employment fields but its misuse may prove a dangerous approach too. How costly is it to learn new ideas? Knowledge is power. The willingness to learn new approaches of doing things puts a person in the upper hand to solve and to demonstrate competence. Reading business news, searching for information about own career provides necessary enlighten in own professionalism. Searching for information does not prove a waste of time but helps in equipping own knowledge on emerging issues and the way to tackle them. In interviews, interviewers may ask questions recently posted in their website, to gauge whether one is interested in searching on the undertakings of the company. Learning new ways is a cheap process that may provide an expensive chance. Why possess conflict management skills? Conflicts are everywhere in every encounter. The ability to demonstrate skills to combat these conflicts puts one in an advantage in the society and in a working environment. In a class setting, there are conflicts too. In order to tackle these conflicts, there is a need to dig out the source of the conflicts and listen to all involved to make a clear judgment. For example in my home team where I play, three of us wanted to be captains. Everyone felt to possess the skills required to lead our team. To solve this conflict, I suggested that the three of us to be set aside while others vote. Though I lost, I felt that my suggestion solved the conflict. Employers seek employees who can make amicable suggestions in case of conflict and not those who get after magnifying a conflict to the notice of everyone.
